Being Izak Harkevich
« on: August 15, 2011, 12:47:56 AM »
Title says it all. I love him, but I don't quite get him. Well, I should state that I understand his immediate needs, but have some questions.

- How many warjacks in 35 points?

I know you're going to want two, but should you opt for a third? Obviously Black Ivan is your first selection since there's so much synergy there. When it comes to your second do you go Spriggan or Destroyer (I'd say Demolisher but he's not out yet)? I'd say Behemoth but I don't own him and can't quite part with the cash at this time.

If you go for three what do you opt for? What happens to the rest of your army at that point?

- Is he best suited to 50 points based on his army's strengths ('jacks)?

Tying into the above series of questions - he wants a fairly robust battlegroup so do you save him for bigger games? Three seems ideal but hard in 35.

- The tier seems ideal. Anyone test it? The only drawbacks seem to be the need for multiple light artillery pieces and the fact Bombardiers aren't out yet.

Anyway, here's what I was looking at for 35pts

- Harkevich (+6 warjack points)
^ Black Ivan
^ Spriggan
^ War Dog
- Greylord Ternion
- Great Bears
- Full Winter Guard Rifle Corps
- Kovnik Joe

I'm unsure of of the Greylords. Fortune on them seems like a good idea, but if I'm going the Spriggan route are the sprays really necessary? Or maybe the Spriggan becomes a Destroyer and the War Dog gets upgraded to a different solo?

I also feel weird without Kayazy. And for the hell of it I'll toss it out there - Nyss Hunters. Yes/No? Fortune on them seems like another good idea.

Anyway, let me know what you think. I know there are a few Khador guys out there.

Based purely on looks your army will be a lot cooler with the Rifle corps.  Sorry I can't really help you at all with anything but that input lol.

Sadly, I think you're stuck with two. Three 'jacks, especially the ones he wants, consume most of your resources. Escort, along with Black Ivan's pillow fist, makes me want to run Beast or a Spriggan as my second 'jack.

I tried 3 at 35. It was rough. I was using a Spriggan, a Destroyer, and Black Ivan. That left me 11 points. I went with Great Bears, Widowmakers, and the almost essential Koldun Lord. I wasn't very happy with it. At 35 points, you either don't have all the 'jacks you want or your support is minimal.

Absolutely. The 'jacks he likes most clock in at 10 points on the low end. At 50, I run Beast (Escort and Pathfinder make it hard to pass him up), the Behemoth, and Black Ivan. I have enough points left over for a sizable WGI unit with Joe, a Koldun Lord, eEiryss, and Aiyana and Holt. The latter are very, very necessary with the negligible amount of magical attacks the list has. I've really enjoyed playing it.

Playing him at 35 is obnoxious. You always feel like you need just a little more to do well.

If I had a second mortar, I'd try it. It seems solid enough.

I like your initial list more than my 35 attempt. I would swap out the Greylords for A&H. It will give you better game against incorporeal shit that just beats this game plan like Pistol Wraiths. Additionally, it helps the Rifle Corp take out heavier targets.

As much as I'd love Kayazy to work great here, his game plan does little for them. WGI with Joe giving them tough are better screeners and just about as threatening. Plus, Fortune lets Joe keep them Tough more often.

Nyss Hunters could have a home, but I think 50 points is where it would be.

Hope this helped!

It's helped quite a bit. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad my gut instincts weren't too off-base. While he wants a formidable battlegroup (and seems to excel with a bigger one) it's hard to commit to more than two jacks at 35pts.

He reminds me a lot of Kraye the more I think about it. They're both jack casters whose abilities make them adept at running both melee and ranged jacks. The trick is finding a balance for them so you feel like you're not just using half the spell list or something.

I think I am going to switch the Greylords to A&H for the reasons you mentioned, Ian. I was wondering if they'd be needed for Stealth, but the Spriggan with the Rifle Corps should be enough.

I think in 50 I'd want either a Devastator or Demolisher (someday) and maybe Widowmakers/Greylords and Gorman. Maybe eEiryss since those jacks will have kick me signs on them for enemy upkeeps.

One nit pick: Hark is +5 'jack points, not +6. The dog will need to stay home :(

The points are right, I just wrote the wrong jack point number on here.
