Considering Warmachine
« on: August 02, 2011, 10:09:40 PM »
Hello all, many of you have not met me (although quite a few have). I used to frequent Battlegrounds much more often than I do now. I played 40k (Raven Guard), well, I still play 40k (Imperial Fists), but I'm considering Warmachine as an alternate. I also have a friend who plays Tau and also wants to start playing Warmachine.

I have a few questions.

What are the differences between Warmachine and Hordes? Can I play a Warmachine army against a Hordes army?

What are the most popular/least popular armies At Battlegrounds?

Thanks,
Jeff.

Hey dude!

There are a few notable differences between the two. Aside from the obvious robots vs. beasts, Warmachine's leaders generate power to fuel their warjacks. In Hordes, the Beasts generate the resources to fuel their leaders.

Warmachine and Hordes are 100% compatible with each other, they just have a few rules differences governing their magic and a few other things.

The most popular armies at the stores are Trollbloods and Cygnar. The least popular are Protectorate of Menoth and Circle of Orboros.

Yup like Ian said the two games are completely compatible.  It is the same game essentially.  They follow the same exact rules set for the core game.  The difference is between how your "leader" works and his battle group of either steam punk robots or beasts.

I would say Cygnar is pretty popular in Warmachine.  At least in our meta.  In hordes I hate to say it but as of recent, trolls.  I started trolls because no one was playing them.  then I started playing at battle grounds and there is a ton of em.

Word of advice, I would never base what faction I played on what everyone else had.  I would base it purely on the models and playstyle.  Play style being the  most important.  If you don't click with your faction you are not going to like it.  I recommend checking out the PP forums to see the different army types and seeing which ones fit your style of play.  Of course I am sure most of us at the shop wouldn't mind going over it with you.  Unfortunately there are no Press gangers in that area that are active (I was going to apply to become one but there is no way I will be able to paint two battle boxes lol).  I need to concentrate on my own models.

In abington there is always a big turn out on Thursdays.  Lots of people playing and painting.  If you can stop by with your friend and check out the scene.  See if it is something that you are interested in.

Agreed, take the time to figure out which faction fits your play style,  or if you enjoy multiple play styles, go with whichever model range you like best.
