Storms of Magic....
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:00:29 PM »
Ok so I just finished my first read through of the book... Hmm....Its cool in some aspects over powered in others and broken here and there....but its broken and over powered equally so I guess that evens the expansion out.  its a giant game of magic and capturing objectives...the player with the most objectives wins...

Its like Warhammer Magical Apocalypse in a sense... not sure how much this expansion will be played but it has some nice added missions and bonus scenarios that are nice.

Anyway that's my 2 cents....

I am personally looking forward to this a lot.  I have read through the book and am very excited about it.  What got me the most excited is when i read that battle report in july's white dwarf.  Excellent report if you have not read it.

i agree the games will be different.  people need to remember it is not about victory pts.  it is about fulcrums.  Well that is the case unless it is a tie, then it is VPs.  I think that is the thing most people forget about is victory conditions in most games.  I personnally think it would be even cool if we would include a SoM game as one of the 3 games in tournaments.  Have your normal list and for that particular game bring in  your side board.

I wish to start playing Dwarfs since Im having a miserable time with painting beastmen and getting them to rank up. But i read the Dwarfs dont use magic and no spell casters. Does this mean they cant be used in Storm of Magic?

Someone who has read the book can give you a full explanation, but until then I can almost guarantee that Dwarfs can be used, and likely have special counter-magic rules.
It's the throwing phase now.

i was on the receiving end on occasion

The Dwarves rely on their runestones and rune"magic". So Its like an amplified effect of the anvil of doom.

Im actualy excited to get my hands on the Dwarf Rule Book. Im going to start putting some $ asside for the army. I really like the idea that they can get cocktrices etc. Storm of Magic looks real fun.

yes dwarfs get magic.  it is actually a neat rule system for them.  i personally think it is VERY powerful.  not the cataclysm spells like other magic but if used right can be very effective.  i cant really explain it here, but i can answer questions you might have after you read the book.

i did another SoM game yesterday LM vs O&G.  it was a great game, esp after my slann Miscasted and then the fulcrum miscast rearranged all of our wizards.  suddenly he had a mage on my side. the very next turn his catapult aimed at my steggie and deviated its course and killed his mage.  nothing like d6 str 9 hits with mulitple wounds coming at you from your own troops.  lol

SoM is very different games, but are very fun.  i still put in my plug trying to get one tournament game as a SoM scenario.
