Its $39.95 for army builder for the license for a year of updates as soon as you buy it I think it runs full version you just can't update after a year. It is a good buy but its come down to would you rather get the minis now or the convenience of building an army list.

http://www.alice40k.tripod.com/calculators.html

I punched in a Bloodthirster with Blessing of the Blood God and Unholy Might as a test, and the sheet gave me the wrong point values. Pen and paper wins again. The store does have a calculator one can borrow as well.

I'm not going to lie I've only really ever used the Tau one which is accurate.

I checked what you checked, It seems like they forgot to add in the point value of Unholy Might. The Calcs definitely aren't perfect, Spelling errors galore. However, I don't use them for the math aspect. only because they help me organize what's in my head. Doesn't mean you can't use them but if you do keep your eyes peeled.

This 100%. Whether you use Army Builder, faux builders or pen and paper, it's very important to figure out what will work and what one will enjoy *before* buying it... unless one is hugely rich.

Pen and paper makes me learn lists and point values faster than telling a program to do it. And as demonstrated, programs can be wrong. The only way to know if they're right is to double-check against the book.

I'll have to double check when I get home, but if I'm looking at it correctly they mis-priced a few things from the Tau codex as well.

yeah i just ended up grabbing army builder from a friend, so I should be able to put a list together and post it soon. Got into an accident today but luckily my car runs perfectly fine so I'll still be able to hop by the store to check out the tourney, can't wait! I've got to learn how these things run.

If you're looking to see how the game works or even just how Daemons work I suggest coming to the Plainville store on a Thursday night or the Abington store any time on Saturday.

The tournament days are cool for seeing what a player's army looks like, but they aren't so great for learning how things work.

Buy a codex; learn to add, subtract, and read for only $30 , with battleground's low prices and all those benefits why wouldn't you buy four?  Pen and paper is for real men, and me...

Would that include PowerPoint? Because a slide presentation at the start of every game would be awful/awesome.
