UK Masters
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:48:36 AM »
The UK masters were taking place over the past weekend while the Red Scorpions Space Marines were lamenting the loss of their first Thunderhawk and all inside.

It seems that Khador took the top prize with Cryx in 2nd (I think). The Khador player's 3 lists were: Old Witch, Vlad the Dark Prince and Irusk (epic, I think). I already lost the link, but I saw it on the PP general board yesterday.

I love my "bad" faction.

EDIT: I am less impressed. Dude had the most boring lists ever. Though, I love seeing the Old Witch do well.

I agree. They seemed like Merc-y lists with some Khador involved.

Old Witch is the broken! :)

I love the Mercs. For me, its mostly that they are all pretty much the same.

Three lists doesn't seem very masterful, I mean let me guess what the cryx player took? eGaspy, eDenny, and eSkarre.  I mean I'm sure the big three of all the factions were there in spades.  Three lists gives you all you need.  Anti-hordes, anti-warmachine, and a scenario lockdown.

Were there any surprising wins? Like somebody winning without using any of their crutch unit/casters?

The trick though is knowing when to use each list.  You can only use each one once.

So you know the faction you are going up against but you don't know your caster until the game.

Some people thing EGaspy = Win Button, well not so much against ESorcha.  So these are the things you have in front of you in these tournaments.

True Joel, your amazing caster isn't quite as amazing as one of the other best casters in the game.  How will you ever survive!

Khador took first, Cryx took 2nd and 3rd!  sweet!  I would like to see what some of the players played.  On the PP forums they listed the rankings of all players but did not list their factions so that was kind of useless.

Keith, you missed the entire point of my post which does not surprise me since your brain capacity can be measured using a soda cap.  **ZINGER** It has nothing to do with what caster you are playing against because you don't know until gametime.  You have to choose the best caster against a faction.  This is why having to use 3 lists balances out those factions that might have more "top tier" casters.

Every faction has their top 4 big nasties though.

eCaine, eHaley, Brisbane, eStryker
pDeneghra, eDeneghra, eAsphyxious, eSkarre
eVlad,----------------------
pSeverious, eFeora, -------------------
eMadrak, Borka, Calandra, Grim
Baulder, eKaya, Moshar, Kromac
eLylth, eThragrosh, Searyn, Vayle (I think)
eMekeda, ----------------------------

I unfortunately don't know all of them but there is a podcast on the top four for every faction in both warmachine hordes.  So either way you will be going against a top tier caster most likely.  As there are about 4 to every faction and you are bringing 3 lists.

WRONG.  Having more "Top Tier" Casters is better.  How could you even argue that?   You don't choose the best caster against a faction, you choose your best caster against their lists.

More Top casters = More variety present to you.  More variety = harder to counter/plan for.

Advantage: Cryx

Cryx have 4 top tiers like everyone else.  But the thing is we don't have any slackers either.  Our non top tier casters are very solid choices.  However they are usually more one dimensional and or easy to counter.  Terminus, Mortenebra probably are number 5 and 6, followed by pSkarre.  Hell, the Coven are great and win tournaments but you need to know how to use them, like anything else.

But yes having more top tier casters = advantage (granted you know how to play).  But for the most part all factions have 3-4 main big guys out there as listed above.

I am not arguing that More Top casters is better or that the Advantage goes to Cryx.  In fact I agree 100% with that.

My point young man is that in this tournament you don't know what list you are playing against you only know the faction.  So you can't say I will play EGaspy because I know you are playing your Old Witch List.  You have to say well maybe I will play PDennegra because I am playing Khador and don't want to have my EGaspy list matched up against his ESorcha list.

Does that make sense?

My original comment was just to clarify that each caster has to be used once in the tourney so it is not like you have 3 lists and can just use EGaspy every battle.

Good day sir!
