Im an old TK player and I plan on keeping in theme with the old school theme.  I agree with opforce that the new sphinxes look out of character, they dont look like the Sphinx at all, if they looked more stone/bone based they would match the rest of the army.  the snakes and snake riders are just silly.

cant wait for rules though- 4pt skeletons, that cuts my core pts in half!

i'm just glad they have some models that weren't in 'the mummy' movies before they were in AB:TK. i've loved the TK concept ever since they split from VC and i'm glad they're finally getting some fantasy stuff to pull them away from the undead version of historical egyptians a little bit.

because there was a huge drop when 8th edition came out, because the rules are putrid.  So GW is trying to win their players back.

They seem to be doing the opposite.

I like the new stuff, though I thought of Necron wraiths at first.
Now I wonder what the Necrons are going to look like this time round, there's a lot of possibility with the magic GW is working in these plastics.

So... yeah... Why doesn't gw make the new 40k codices in hardcover? why does fantasy get all the nice stuff?

I sort of hope they don't do this.

Many players buy the 40k army books with no intent to play the army.  At $37.50 or whatever, it's just more encouragement for players to A) find the .pdf and/or B) get a subscription to army builder.  If nothing else, it would certainly make it more difficult to attract players age 16 and younger.

I *will* lose out in volume if they make this change with 40k.  I'm not sure how it would impact the bottom line.

Sorry for the derail.

I just took a look at the pics on the GW site.  I think the new stuff looks pretty cool.

The snake surfers are apparently riding snakes made of stone, which seems to be in line with the fluff.  Reading this instantly made me change my mind on them.

The skeletons look like skeletons to me.

The half snake half man dudes look badass.

The sphinx thing seems like it can be done up in a lot of different ways.  I don't mind it.  I think a lot of the new, bigger fantasy models will be weird looking (except the spider, who is totally awesome).  He will probably look pretty awesome if he's done up in a bone + gold theme.  I suppose the giant tail is obnoxious...

I hope the bone giant and ushabti? dudes are still in the book.  Those models look really cool.

The TK have always has some of the most powerful magic in the warhammer world.  Everyone else was getting updates, why not TK?  Also, as for thinking that bigger Bone giants would be better than a Sphinx, or a Legitimate sphinx?? (no idea what you mean) I have no idea what you mean.  So the current line was better because it was the current line?

Also, remember that the studio painter CHOSE to paint them as having black onyx or whatever, you can easily paint it in another manner, make it look more stone or however you wish.

How are the snakes any more complicated than the scorps are?  One 'works' the other doesn't?  Doesn't make any sense.  So maybe a unit here or there is not your cup of tea.  My understanding is that core skeletons went down in price and TK chariots will be solid.  So it will still keep the classic elements intact.

A. Here's what a more "legitimate" but still fantasy-appropriate sphinx would look like (to assist in your lack of imagination):

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BO5zSCZ7zDw/TXty_TQFZSI/AAAAAAAANsM/o6LN4W_W8h0/s400/Warhammer_Great_Sphinx_model.jpg

B. Just repainting the model can't change the entire model's sculpt. Nor can a change of color alter the texture of the sculpt.

C. For you to call a model line "better" is highly dubious. The new line has a more diverse range of options, but lacks the condensed, stylistically sound approach the old range had.

C. Your argument against  my opinion of the snake riders is pretty bad, both in concept and execution. There's a big difference between an animated statue that is mildly reminiscent of an Ushabti and a skeleton surfing on top of a fast-moving giant snake. A skeleton has been, and still is, described as clumsy, slow, and lacking in motor skills. They definitely shouldn't be able to ride anything like that. They could have themed them in a similar style to the Tomb Scorpion, but they didn't. They look radically different and pretty silly, where as the way they did the scorpion was both cool looking and functional.

The skeletons look like skeletons to me.

The only issue is that GW scaled down Vampire Counts' skeletons (which are too small, I think) but not Tomb Kings'. The new Tomb Guard are based on the scale of VC skeletons, and will probably look odd in an army with regular TK skeletons.

On a more optimistic note, the new rules for these units (the snakes, sphinx, etc) mean that I have alot of conversion opportunites. I'd like to keep my armys overall asthetic of skeletons and statues intact, but the new edition makes stuff like this necessary. The actual models look like they'll be great for converting into other stuff (I'm seeing the snakes applied to alot of Slaanesh stuff in 40k).

Question: Is anyone else having difficulty with the text box that you type in when you post? Mine is all screwed up.
