I'm actually working on the "Space Marine 1st Company" Formation, which is made up of 10 units of 10 models, chosen from Sternguard Veterans, Vanguard Veterans, and any Terminator type. I'm about half way done with the painting now, so a month will give me plenty of time to finish without feeling the need to rush everything.
And as far as the Black Reach story goes, I haven't read anything that didn't come out of the Space Marine Codex. I know that Sicarius' company was dispatched to fight the Warlord Zanzag, but beyond that I'm not exactly sure of who else was involved. That being said, if we decided just to go with the Battle Company, it would only add up to about 3300 points, and that's with moderate to expensive equipment. For a larger scale game, we could say that Warlord Zanzag's greenskin invaders were reinforced by a Green Tide (along with whatever else you may have) that was on it's way back from pillaging another planet. So, in seeing that his forces were severely outnumbered, Sicarius is forced to call for reinforcements of his own, and thus arrives Ultramarines 1st. Company.
Tell you what, I'll try to find the Assault of Black Reach novel, and read it before our game. It's only about 130 pages, so I'm sure it won't be a long read.
And I'm honestly indifferent to Super Heavies. If you want to play a larger game that includes them, I'm fine with that. I guess the first thing we should probably do is set an amount to play at, and then work towards that. Agreed?
