Question,

So I've got my 2k grey knights army about half glued and hopefully will be able to bring them down next Thursday to look for a game.

My question is this, is a 2k army too big for a first game? Because I'm happy with my 2k, already have enough other stuff for a 2500... but I think if I had to whittle this list down to 1k or 1500 I'm pretty sure I would cry lol

So 2k to big to learn on?

Thanks
-jason

no game is too big to learn with, but i have found that when learning a new army, it is easier to play smaller games. this way you have to worry about less units, but again, its up to you.

Good question!

2000 is about as big as we normally see around here, though 2500 is not uncommon. Teaching takes awhile regardless, because there is a steep learning curve to 40k, period. The first hurdle is the tallest, but then it gets easier.

Any point limit I think is fine to learn on, if you're in it for learning. I think it's a matter of the list. The more repetition in the list, the less likely it'll be a problem. For example, if you have 6 squads of Grey Knights in Heavy Bolter Razorbacks (with psyammo, of course), you'll obviously learn faster than having six differently equipped Troops and vehicles.

i think once you get over a point in points like i would say 1650-1850 and over the game seems to become dry and its like lets see what the dice do.
in smaller games like 1000-1650 you need to protect units more so cause it could cost you the game. thus making it better the learn.
i really feel that 2000 points and over and i don't think its just me who feels this way is like we are some rich guys at our golf club showing off our off clubs even though we suck at the game btw i can paint a mean golf club email me at zarition@gmail.com if you want you clubs painted.

Seriously though are people interested in this Multiplayer 500 point game cause if they are I would like to bring some guys who might be interested in 40k and give them a chance to play with a smaller army with some of the good folks here.

I know we are planning to do a cool 500 point thing this thursday. But next thursday would anyone be up for something different next week? A while ago the GW did this thing where like 20 people each had control of one tank on a big table, and it was a last man standing thing. There was a lot of terrain so it wasn't just a who ever goes first thing. The point limit was something like 300 points (so necrons can play too). The turn order was determined by picking numbers out of a hat. Would anyone have any interest in this? or is this me just being happy that i now have a tank?
