Here's the one thing that matters, now that we're starting to retread arguments without going any further forward. How would the Battleground judge(s) rule on this?

However the matter gets ruled in a competitive tournament is the rule I would expect the community to follow, which goes for this and every other rule.

So, off to e-mailing Sam, and we'll get his first impression.

It is important to work these things out, as there's a doubles tournament in less than a month and I expect the new Necron codex to be legal by then.

But we should probably do that in another thread too. :D

Nope! Next topic is still the topic before this Necron business flared up. What are you bringing this Thursday?

Nick's Dark Angels vs Wes' Necrons (1850)

Jason will have up to 2500 points of Grey Knights, looking for a game.

Emory will have 1500 points of Tau.

Just to clarify...

I didn't mean to start a trend of "I'm not having this discussion" when it comes to pretty much anything.  I mentioned not wanting to discuss whether people thought pairing stuff a certain way would compromise the integrity of an event because this is not the place for it.  Ultimately it's something I have to decide on (and have) and past experience has taught me it's definitely NOT a discussion you want to open up to the public for at least two very solid reasons.

As far as this line thing goes... as unfortunate as it is, *I* think it's very clear.  If Pat's quote is accurate, I'm not even sure there's much room to argue intent.

In my opinion, it's crystal clear.

Is a unit under the line?
If yes, how many models are in the unit?
That unit takes that many hits.

"...takes a number of hits equal to the number of models under the line in each unit."

Is very, very different than:

"...takes a number of hits equal to the number of models in the unit under the line."

I would imagine this is absurdly powerful and will likely be FAQ'd to fix that.  The RAW can sometimes be really ridiculous and dictate something that is obviously not the intent.  Here, I'm not so sure the intent isn't exactly what's written.  Again, it seems really clear to me.  If the author meant something else, he did a damn good job fooling me.

And yeah, the new Necron book will DEFINITELY be legal for the doubles.  The only reason it wasn't legal for the 500 point event was because we didn't get our preview book.  (Friggin GW....)

If you don't have enough bikes, you should be filling the rest of your list with ML Dev squads. Proxy if you must. At least until you figure out what you should have in the list. (Don't bring the Land Raider vs Tau!)

I'm going to try to be there tomorrow with the new Necron codex.  I haven't built any of the new models so I'll just be using what I have already,  and possibly an unpainted Trazyn.  I hope you all don't mind my proxy pariahs as praetorians.  After all they both begin with "P".
