It is going to be interesting to see how this will play out.  I have a feeling it will be utterly broken.

I am making the call now, the top tournament armies are all going to be running GK with IG allies....

I disagree with this I think IG mech is going to get a HUGE hit possibly. The way they are talking about removing the randomness of the Damage Vehicle Chart and making it Hull Points I think a Majority of IG Mech is going to be rather Fragile to make up for the number they can put out.

I am excited I think Land Raiders are going to make a Comeback since they won't be so random. It will take more than One Melta to take them out so if you have one on the field its going to attract a lot more firepower than 1 or 2 melta guns to take it down.

I'm excited to beable to put a LR into my guard force... along with it's inquisitor or witch hunter.....  :D

This Thursday 40k is our Farewell to Fifth Edition! 6th is releasing this weekend, and so this will be (unofficially, of course) the last Thursday 40k featuring 5th rules.

So what does that mean? There will probably be a cake. And I'm giving away another model! It's... um... it's sort of a... not a GW model... so it's... Well, it's cool, that's what.

Tonight was a really great send-off for 5th Edition. To paraphrase my short speech given atop a chair,
Quote
Warhammer players! Thank you for coming out to this send-off for 5th Edition. It's been good to us. We have after my own heart some 500 point games. In the back, a huge 4000 point game. Bill McFadden won this awesome, ugly model, rolling a natural 20. *light applause* ["Get to the cake!"] I'm getting to the cake. Free cake! In summary, to 5th Edition which brought us mechanized armies, TANKS for the memories! [*groaning*]
That's how I feel about 5th. Tanks for the memories. My great hope for 6th is that it is just as fun. I really don't care about anything else.

So there's this new book out for 40k... think it's called SITH Edition or something that sounds like that... anywho

I will be there from 6pm Thursday (or earlier if somebody is looking for afternoon games) and i'm not leaving until we make Sams head explode with rules questions or Ben  "The Boulander" MacLeod stops rolling snake eyes on assault charge rolls!

whichever comes first...

i'm putting my money on Sams head exploding

don't wear your favorite geek shirt because it will likely get brains on it (very hard to wash out you know)

@PhoenixFire I hope that primer works out for you.  I love the idea of the soviet themed IG.  I love the idea of Soviet and Nazi themes for IG...it just fits.  If I ever made IG, I think I would use 28mm Waffen-SS minatures.

And thanks for the compliment on the DakkaJets.  I was happy how they turned out, and a painting hack like me always likes hearing that people like what I have done.

Most rules Questions are easy to figure out without going to Sam. The book is very clear this time around outside of a few instances. Every time I asked a question from an explanation the person opened his book and we found a clear concise answer to it very easily.

Bikes are Better. Artillery is better. Blast is Better. In general my whole army list is better from 6th :3.
I ride in on my Bike with my Hat of awesome and say Nay this place should be on fire.

Yeah, this Thursday begins our grand adventure into 6th. People are going to ask me rules questions, and they probably shouldn't. I'm not a good "rules" guy. I'm hoping to find time to actually read this book. Very little reading got done today at the 6th Launch event.

How are you finding that bikes are better, just the true 5T?  Or is there other stuff in the book I haven't gotten to yet?

Just the T5 itself is a godsend. I dont know about other things about bikes yet I still don't have my rule book but what this does is basically makes it so Melta and Las doesn't certify an instant kill on a Bike so Attack Bike Squads won't just die to 3 lascannon shots it will take 6 making them a much more durable squad to have. Putting say a Librarian,Chaplain, Captain, or Chapter Master on a Bike will mean that they can go up against Power Fists and Thunder hammers in close Combat without just popping from a single attack getting through which is the downside to most Space Marine HQs. Hammer of Wrath makes them slightly better at assault though not much. Jink gives them a 5+ cover save all the time basically a Terminatour armour invuln. They are Still Relentless. Turbo-boosting happens in the shooting phase so they can then change directions while doing it. so you can basically get where your going with a 3+ cover if you don't want to shoot something.

Bikes IMO are going to be the downside of Flyers. A Flyer can only move a 90 degree Pivot Bikes are going to have the speed to always be behind that flyer giving it nothing to shoot at while Bikes focus on the rest of the army or take potshots at the Flyer from a Safe Position.

Artillery is going to be Tougness 7 have 2 wounds and a 3+ save meaning that its not treated as a vehicle giving it cover saves. Wounds are done the same way as regular units so you put the gun up front and its going to die before your squad but your denying victory/KPs when the gunners scatter. Techmarines Bolster Defences also work on ANY cover now making Thunderfire cannons a more durable survivable model than before.

I love these small things that changed they may not seem like a lot to the mainstream but I like it :D.

I think there's going to be another wave of 500 Point games this week, which is a really good thing. Should help with the learning curve quite a bit, let the new players get in on the action and allow for multiple games in an evening.

500-750 does seem like the perfect value to learn and get used to the new rules.  I'm hoping I can be up there, but I might not make it.  Work has messed with our hours again and I'm now going in at 8pm instead of 2 the following morning.
