Kill teams league
« on: November 09, 2010, 10:07:14 PM »
I want to start up a (very) fun casual league of kill teams.

The rules are very simple:
200 points list
no hq or heavy support allowed
no org slots are used (ie you don't have to have 2 troop choices)
units bought must be legal and follow minimum sizes and restrictions listed in your codec
each model is it's own individual units
3 models get 3 different special rules from the main rulebook (ie 1 rule per model nominated)

when you lose 25% of your kill team (army) you start making a ld test (each subsequent turn it goes down by 1) if you fail this ld test or are tabled you lose.

Please post within this thread if you are interested and suggestions for a day (Wednesdays or weekends work best for most people typically)

*keep in mind this is CASUAL and you should play fun lists which are simple and enjoyable to play. Bringing cheesey overpowered competitive stuff is very frowned upon in the rules

Dave,

Unless you're playing with modified rules, you actually start taking Leadership checks when 50% of your models are killed, not 25%.

And there is a Force Org Chart, except it's limited to just the following:

0-1 Elite Choice
0-2 Troop Choices
0-1 Fast Attack

Any combination from the choices above is legal.

Number of games I've managed to play since Tristan's arrival: 70

My bad. 50%

I don't think at 200 points that you can fit much more than 1 unit anyways except nid's and orks.

Does this mean Ben hong is interested?

I'm interested, and the day that works best for me is Saturdays. Also, would this not include dreadnoughts? I feel as though if someone was to bring an ironclad or a dreadnought with auto cannons and a close range weapon that it would be extreme cheeze against a squad of men. Your Thoughts?

I'd definitely be interested if I had more time to be around BG, Dave.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely...  If I happen to be in town for one of the days you're holding the event though, I'd participate for a few games if I'm allowed to.

It's also a good way to teach new players and demo the game without worrying about the complexities of a whole army.

And of course. It's a cheap way to have fun and get into the game since it only costs one box of stuff to play really. (unless you plan on playing 33 orks or tyranids)

I plan on playing. Thousand sons

Dreadnoughts are included.  However, Dave left out a huge part about Kill Teams.  The way the game works is that each model functions as it's own unit.  Imagine an IC, except without the IC rule.  Now apply the same rules for moving, shooting, and assaulting.  All of a sudden, your Dreadnought who's just shot and killed one model has nothing to assault.

Bringing a single model has the chance of it being killed quickly, and thus ending the game a lot quicker, since all Dreadnoughts will cost you at least half of your allotted points.  So to answer your question, no, it wouldn't be "extreme cheeze" if you brought a Dreadnought since you're probably only going to have 1 or 2 models in your entire list, and you'll most likely be heavily outnumbered.  A good shot with a Meltagun would be all that'd be needed.  Just ask Dave...  He knows this from experience playing against me.

However, don't let that discourage you from at least trying out the pieces for yourself.  Kill Teams is meant to be fun, fast paced, and quirky at the same time.

Ohh I get it! This sounds like its going to be a blast! I have a unit that I have in mind to play but I'll have to run it by ya as it is out of date. I never got to play the unit in any game so it would be cool to do. Not very strong but it would be fun, especially against orcs! Anyone remember the Piscina system and the Storm of Vengence?

I'd like to see someone play guard. With 200 points, you could field up to 40 guardsmen, lol

Sorry I didn't see you there Brian. Yes, a dreadnought is fine. Just remember your opponent upon seeing that can put a meltagun, multimelta, powerfist, and meltaboms in their list. But hey it's whatever you want to have fun and play, if you enjoy peanut butter and jelly goblins, be my guest and play them! :)

I just don't want to see anyone upset or getting bloodthirsty to win. Obviously playing a 200 point game of 40k isn't very serious. A Saturday is a great idea to me since tons of people are down that day.

I will be down (hopefully) this Saturday to demo the game and play a few.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'll try to be down Saturday myself.
