Thinking of Dark Eldar Competitive list
« on: November 01, 2010, 05:44:30 PM »
I’m thinking about building a small Dark Eldar list. Primarily because I have a ton of Vyper’s for the Eldar that I don’t use and with some conversion they make good venom’s, and I have a bunch of old school warriors kicking around.  The firepower the venoms can put out is amazing expecailly 6.
I was wondering what people think. This is a small competitive tourney list, not fun play :)

HQ:Baron Sathonyx
HQ:Haemonculusx2 webway, venomblade
T:10xWarriors with syrabite/lance
T:10xWarriors with syrabite/lance
T:15wyches 1xgauntlets, hetrix agaoniser
F:10 Hellions stunclaw w sarg
E:truebornx3 3xblasters venom
E:truebornx3 3xblasters venom
E:truebornx3 3xblasters venom
T:Wrackx5 with sarg in venom
T:Wrackx5 with sarg in venom
T:Wrackx4 with sarg in venom
VoidPheonix w/flickerfield
Parasite SpiritProbe

My thinking is in a tourney the Baron will affect the start of at least one game in a 3 round tourney.

I’m thinking that if you go 1st start the warriors, and the 3 wrack venoms with the 4 man having the homunculus with the webway in it, the other with the wyches for FNP. 1st round zip up the wracks get out drop the webway, giving the wyches, hellions, and the parasite engine another entry point.  Reserves: theTrueborn, void pheonix go tank hunting and wracks assist the hellions and wyches. Go second hold everything but the Homunculus Venom in reserve and cross your fingers.

I took the Voidpheonix because I wanted to make an army with any raider chassis in it, not sold on it though also thinking of trading 2nd warrior squad in for more wyches.

I know it’s a very fragile army, but getting the jump on someone quick can prove very beneficial.

Any thoughts?

It's the dark eldar little transport. I havn't heard of them making a model yet. The description puts it at the size and shape of an eldar Vyper. It can kick out a lot of poison firepower though. Small transport capacity 5 model's and about 5 points cheaper than a raider with an auto flicker field (5+ invul)

Jeff,
It's inline with current thinking on the usual boards so no real arguments here yet.
I like the idea of the venoms, and am love the parasite engine though I prefer it's 20pt upgrade.

There's no forgiveness in that army and you may end up giving up a lot of KP very quickly, and having no way to control objectives.

We'll see I need to get a few more games under my belt :)

btw not sure it's wise to have points costs listed...

Cheers,
A

Thanks Alan,

Just out of curiosity why?

"btw not sure it's wise to have points costs listed..."

I have seen this before on other forums, why is this, does GW bring the hammer down on this? I have removed the cost.

I took the spirit probe upgrade on the parasite to divy up the pain tokens. Controlling the objectives will be difficult. I was thinking that the 2x Warrior squads will sit back and tank snipe as well as control close objectives.

I can see issue's with horde lists, that's why I was thinking of another wych squad, once they have that FNP on them they will tarpit just about any unit in hth. Granted they'll get wasted if not in hth

This is just my starting point, I'm gonna start playing the list after I'm done with Daboyz GT and my 2 month long painting session.

It wasn't allowing me to delete my post but I was able to modify it, and I posted before I read the whole thing of Jeff's, so what I said was wrong and made no sense.

Skaven read both codex's in detail!

There's big changes, especailly in the way that the unit's function. I never played the old codex but played against it many times. In the new codex's the units work together well, and a mixed army can fucntion as a cohesive force.

Not to mention the PAIN rules, most units having the ability to get FNP, Furious charge, and fearless, I would call that a major change.

Some units got a major boost, shifting the wyches from elites to troop's in more than just org chart changes, it changes the way the army play's. Wyches with a homulculs (sp?) attached from the get go get dodge 4+ and then FNP, that makes it 75% likely that they will pass there armour check in hth (i suck at math let me know if I'm wrong) not metion the random combat drug ability that only helps them, oh yea and they count as a scoring unit.

I could go on but I'm not

I would suggest that before posting within a legitimate thread on DE construction with assinine comments that you fully read the codex's and understand the differences first.  These codex's are like night and day next to each other and a simple flip through would make that apparent.

On the aside I think that List Jeff has alot of potential but can be very fragile against gun lines and so on.  One thing it has going for it is that its super fast the effect of the first round gang and bang can be made up with how fast that it can cross the board and the potential of taking 1st 50% of the time.

I would suggest taking a few vipers out and puting in bigger sqauds in bigger transports because at this point if I take a viper 5 guys really wouldnt be a threat and the potential of losing your webway is greater unless it was played extremely tight.

Again what your saying has nothing to do with my post.

Please keep it on topic, No offense to Steve but what does his waiting for a new codex have to do with my competitive list build? easy nothing.

I actaully value his and alan's opionions about my list the most because I know they both play that codex.

If you want to start a post about the Dark Eldar in general and how they suck/don't suck please do so, but please don't hijack my thread with this nonsense. If you have an opionon about list please kindly read the codex and then post.

Thank you kindly

Jeff

One thing I would do with that list is drop the Sybarite upgrades in the Warriors, since they have no other upgrades on them the Pts cost is better spent elsewhere. I would suggest getting another Hydra Guantlet in that Wych unit over the Sybarite upgrade, since those warriors will be stationary and just gunline anyway. The extra attacks generated from that Gauntlet I think will override the 1pt in leadership you will get.
