Something Big this way comes (*Update July 29th*)
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:57:37 AM »
Ok so for all of my miniature gaming life i have been a 40k player. Just a few weeks ago I took the plunge from some prodding from a friend to try fantasy. I can't do anything small any more so I picked up a ton of miniatures the New edition rules and now I need to figure out just what I have and how good it is...

Here is what I have... what else do I need?

Army:  Lizardmen

48 Saurus Warriors (either with swords or Spears (magnetized)
48 Skinks
13 Cold One Saurus Riders
10 Temple Guardians
6 Chameleon Skinks
3 Kroxigar
1 Slann Mage Priest
1 Standard Bearer
1 Champion
1 Skink Preist
1 Saurus Scar Veteran
1 (oop) Stegadon with Bolt Thrower
1 (new) Stegadon with Engine of the Gods
1 Thunder Lizard Seige Tower
How is this so far? What else do I need? I love the look of the Razordons they seem mean and tough... but I would like some advice from the experts...

Ok so now that I cleaned up my painting and modeling area I opened all my Lizardmen and started assembling. Took a break later in the evening and did a quick paint test on this guy...

Feedback please....

Very nice job on the shield. if you pick out one or two scales in a sharply contrasting colour (yellow, metallic green or blue) it can have a dramatic effect.

Scales on plastic models are a problem to properly augment. They don't have the deep cuts and sharp edges of the metal, so don't show off their depth with inks or drybrushing as clearly. I would suggest a little highlighting of the edge of the skull  and the more prominent raised areas with a little light touch of Space Wolf grey or similar to , well, highlight them.
Just remember, manling.... the Bloodthirster is MINE.-

What else is needed?

Hmm... First would be a partner for the Doubles Tournament on October 23rd.

Then some paint would be cool.

How does all that fit into the 8th Ed. force org?

Play in the tournament?  HA... not even finished the rule book and never played a game before... before I prime and paint I want to make sure I should not rearm some of the folks, so feedback is key here :) As far as force org... not sure if it works....I just built what I had...

(Back in my day) :P My first 3 fantasy games were in a tournament. I wouldn't worry about it, just find someone to play with and do the tournament. You'll learn just as well as any if not more while playing in a tournament.

If you've read through the book, you are ready for a few test games, and then a tournament is a great next step.
MAN UP and play.

To reply whether your "list" is functionable, I would add your points up and see what you can do, or what you've got. Set yourself a limit such as 2500pts, or 2000pts. And go from there. A Slaan is a mighty wizard, but a huge point eater (roughly 400pts) which would be your only lord. You've got large blocks on saurus infantry which can give chaos warriors a run for their money, and you've got some of the special units like cavalry and kroxigors.

So sit down and play around with your list and see what you can come up with. Theres no right or wrong list, obviously some things work better than others, but thats the point in playing them game, find out what does work well. Learning by doing is so much more helpful than having someone tell you what to do.

you buy them from battlegrounds, those are the best ones  ;)

for your case, I'd buy the build-it-yourself ones, all the other movement trays only take the 20mm base size into account, while the saurus sport the whopping 25mm, so you would need to expand on them to take the rank rule into account.
