i think steve is right. this is out of hand over one model. im the one who payed 41.25 for something i didnt even get to use and i dont care. the rule book is pretty clearly against me for now. gw might fix it but for doubles im not gonna bother. its too many points used up for things i can do other stuff with.

as to logan007, thanks bud.  i HOPE i dont find out my drop pod isnt the same  ::)

here we go again...

Hey man, I'm just reading the rulebook.  /shrug

According to the Ordnance heading there doesn't appear to be an ordnance weapon that doesn't use a blast marker unless it specifically says the model does not, like the Valk missile and the Tank Hunter.

Why are people choosing to only take the first relevant sentence into account when determining what an Ordnance weapon means / is by default?

If they are all large blasts, why is that not the default in the rulebook?

It is the default.  People are twisting the way the rules are stated to say that it isn't.

Quote
IG Deathstrike Missiles are a special munition, and in the codex it is pointed out.
As is the Tank Hunter, Valdor, Hellstrike Missle, etc.  Paraphrased from the tank hunter rules: "... is an ordnance weapon that does not use a blast".  It shouldn't need to say that if by the rules not saying blast means that it doesn't use one.

Quote
Unless the words "Large Blast" are included in the entry, you cannot assume that a large blast template is used.

That's what we're discussing now, it doesn't work as part of the argument for it.

Do we need to bring in cyclone missile launchers from new marine codex to the old BA dex?
I'm afraid I have no idea what that has to do with this.

I don't understand why you guys, where common sense should come into play, are trying to find any possible way to keep it without a blast even as rules are presented otherwise.  Thankfully Chase is a voice of reason for all of us, but come on.
It's the throwing phase now.

i just could care less. i think actually any of those 5" template demolisher cannons should be removed or made for high point games. in 1250, it can wipe an army by turn 3. the fact that it rains death upon whatever it touches is a little too good

That's why you trust your opponents to not powergame.  Unfortunately some people are like that, but luckily with us most aren't.  You can, however, find a good use for your Vindicator without in the doubles tournament.  I know you have good tank hunting units but this thing is extremely powerful, either for killing armor or taking out a hard to kill model (Tyranid Monstrous Creatures, for example).

Also, just a note for the future, it's "couldn't care less".  "Could care less" would mean that you do care about it somewhat.

PS. The XBOX works great.  I love playing Steel Battalion.  ;D

haha good to hear.  well i got my blood lance that is a demolisher cannon except it goes in a straight line! its pretty sweet. i mean its str10 ap1 and goes in a straight line 4d6" plus its a lance so any armor over 12 is 12 period. i tried it out a little and it usually gives good results

As a side note, are we all looking at the new IA updated rules from FW when quoting that about the tank hunter and valdor?  I didn't see the line specifying it's not a large blast, just that the profile of the gun (s) is (are) "heavy 1, ordnance".

I'm not sure.  All my books are PDF.  We should take a look in the store.

For some reason this reminds me of the disruptor beacon asset debate right before megabattle.

If you had to tell your opponent that his models were moving into range of your vindicator during his movement phase, and tell him what your vindicator threatens when it moves during your movement phase, then I'd agree :)

well, wouldnt my opponent know that? i mean theyre welcome to read the army sheet so if they saw 24" that should do. telling them where is threatened makes the game lose alot of its integrity and realism its not like alexander the great got to ask persia "hey can you shoot me from here?"

the whole idea is to be as close to a real battle as a tabletop can be. thats what makes a seasoned general different from a noob like me. you should have "an eye" for things and have a natural sense of strategy  :)

I now agree with Rob and feel pretty strongly that the rules support using the large blast marker vs the contrary.  I understand that there are arguments either way and know what they are well.

Just to be clear, the Doubles event will NOT use the large blast marker.

aw cmon chase  ;D

im dropping the blood angels after doubles anyways and trading the vindicator with ben. since ive gotten a clear look at the game and how things play ive decided to start collecting an eldar army. i take back what i said about eldar, theyre actually really crazy mofos. i plan on picking up maybe like 500-1000 pts worth next month if possible

You know playing devils advocate is one way to make sure an argument is bullet proof.

Problem is that in the 40k community as a whole (including people away from BG) know what GW meant.... kind of.  Tournaments tend to bring people more RAW oriented than RAI oriented.  Basically, by Chase saying "That's what it says" and following it as strict as possible puts everyone on the same page.

I know a demolisher cannon has a large blast but the 'sperging community as a whole will point their Cheeto laden finger at the lack of large blast or even blast from the rule and grin as mountain dew flows down their chin on to their "No, I will not fix your computer" shirt.
