New player looking for a game 4/17
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:42:03 PM »
Hi I'm looking for someone to help me get back into 40k after a very very long break.
I currently am looking for a 700-750 point game to get back into the rules.
That is all the figures I have ready to play right now.

Let me know if you can help me out and what time is good for for you.

I get at Battlegrounds at around noon to 2 usually and stay til 11. I can play a game anytime that I am there. I should probably warn you that I use the Tau (which everyone seems to hate).

Is there any time that is better than others?
This Saturday is pretty open for me.

Tau should be fun to go against.

Anytime, I am going to play a game at 11 probably. Just drop in and I'll play a game if I'm not already playing one.

Tau are never fun to go against, especially Dan's Tau.  :P

That's what eveyone been saying lately. I'm trying to be less competitive in my lists and have acvted less competitvely lately. I have a habit of bringing a lot of railguns if I see 3+ vehicles. I actually have lots of fun playing 1000+ all non-vehicle models though I have only done that 3 times (accually wiped out a chaos space marine player on turn 3 in 1400pts once).

Call me crazy, but I *think* the idea is to build a list BEFORE you know what you'll be fighting against...

Seems sort of unfair to say, "Well, I'm fighting a ton of Orks... I'd better take 27 flamers." Or something like, "3 Land Raiders?  I guess I'll bring 9 Broadsides!"

Anyhow, the tailoring of the list based on what you'll be fighting seems to be common in the newer players.  It's probably in every bodies best interest if it stops. :)

I'd suggest this might depend on one's recent win - loss record.  Many new players don't do so well for a while.  I don't tend to grumble much if someone new is experimenting with stuff, trying to find a way to be competitive.  On the other hand, players who have been winning a lot lately might want to try to give themselves a greater challenge by creating a one list fights all force.

And even Chase might be questioned on occasion.  Does he think he is Steve D or something?  ;)

I like how Chase doesn't play the game and gets it completely.

I agree.  Make a single list to use on all occasions, with maybe a few minor changes.  I do this, and I don't have the most spectacular record (except with my White Scars), but I have a lot more fun and know that I"m maturing tactically.  Going about it this way makes you learn more about tactics and less about superior list-building.

Then again, I suppose I should go to WARMACHINE if I want tactics.

Chase's words hold true. That being said; you can always have more than one list ready to play. I happen to have 3 lists made for 1,500 pt games and I tend to decide which to play on my way to BG.  Don't specifically say that I know I"m going against a horde player and will being alot to deal with it. Kinda of take the fun out of it. Unless it's Bryan, or Rich ....haha! j/k!      ;D
