Squadrons make a 4 on the damage chart a wrecked result. It is basically a trade off of survivablity and for firepower.

My opinion on matter:

You have 9 valks, 3 in each squadron.  You are talking about things dying quickly but you would only have 3 outflank rolls (you roll for the squadron not the unit inside, they have outflank conferred to them because they are mounted)

You can do 1 command platoon in valk and 2 sep inf platoons of PCS and 3 squads with whatever you want to load them out with.

An all vet list is pretty boring (coming from the guy that plays it alot and really looking to change it) and the inf platoon gives your army the flavor I think you are looking for.

Im not planning on mounting everything in valks. I do plan on having platoons already deployed on the ground in fire lines. Im just not sure how to make the best use of Valks since the Elysians use them the most. I guess i need the IA book for the Sky Talon, and the buggie vieichle rules to provide the armor punch I would need for this list.

Can any one tell me, is it worth putting heavy bolters on Valkyres?

Heavy bolters on valks are probably not optimal.   That being said, if I ever build mine, it willl have heavy bolter sponsons just because of a certain coolness factor.

EDIT:
By coolness I mean from a modelling perspective.  I would love to make it so renegades are hanging out the side raining death on troops as they fly by.  Grinning under they hoods shouting "GET SOME.   GET SOME." as they mow down guardsmen.

Str 5 sponsons are barely appealing on a russ and a valk is even less likely to use them.

Does any one have any clue about the release date for IA Volume 8? Ive been trying to search the intertubes but Im only finding rumors or confirmations about what it will have.

The precedent is September.  The former 3 IA books were released in that month give or take a month.

So just buy a bunch of dudes and play normal IG with them.  It's not like you are trying to emulate a completely different army like renegade guard. *rimshot*

yeah.... but it makes my head hurt trying to make a viable list using normal guard rules that incorprate so many fast attack choices.

That's the foundation of a viable / hyper competitive IG list.

well i own 2 valks so far. Im not sure about a Vendetta yet since im not 100% sure if Elysians get them.
