Elysian Drop Troops
« on: April 11, 2010, 06:16:44 PM »
I want to do Elysian Drop Troops but they dont have official rules yet. Even so, their official rules are from Forge World and are not always allowed in tournaments. How should I go about making a list for them with out the Forge World Rules using the Imperial Guard Codex. I know they would all be Veterans, but they do have heavy weapon teams and it looks like not all of them fly in on Valks. Also the list hearts fast attack.

Keep in mind. They make extensive use of Sentinels as well as Valks and Vendettas. Thats already a lot of fast attack slots taken up. Im not sure if squadroning valks is a good idea or not.  So im stuck with how I should organize the list to make it efficent, as well as follow the fluff as close as possible.

Be a man and use the IA rules.  A person that would get antsy about you using the IA rules isn't worth playing.  I wouldn't cater an army list for 4 games a year.

Just start painting them up anyways! just start painting up the troops and stuff, and when the book comes out, you'll have a sizeable force. Also, I'm pretty sure Rich, Myself, and just about anyone cool would let you play using the IA list.

Also, it would be pretty epic if your Elysian Drop troops allied with my Kriegsmen.

Fair enough, ill start by getting Valks. Paul G said Kreig wouldnt work along side elysians because they use persision tactics where as Kreig use trench warfare.

They "work" together in the same way that your average space marine chapter and imperial guard regiment "work" together. You nab the objectives and I'll hold em!

elysians aren't veterans. they are stat-for-stat normal guardsmen, with alternate deployment methods (grav schute deepstriking) and more airborne trasports and support. just use the imperial armor rules. who cares about tournaments.

i don't think they have carapace armor, but it's not a huge stretch to use them as veterans or stormtroopers for the time being

I'd say use them as normal IG stormtroopers for now and when the IA book comes out go with that. Personly I won't have problem against it.

If you are looking to use them with current rules, infantry platoons with rocket launchers mounted in squadroned valk's.  Throw in some special weapon teams of meltas and hw teams of heavy bolters/autocannons you have a good start of a guard list that resembles elysians that is easier for tournament play.

Also, use the IA rules.  Play against Rich's real traitor guard for an IA battle of the guardsmen

I suppose I can just use platoons. but I dunno if Squadroning valks is a good idea. They will have to stay in unit coherency plus I want to use elysian drop sentinels that I would use as scout sentinels. Problem is Scout Sentinels dont get Multi Meltas or Heavy Bolters. I also wouldnt be using any armor since Elysians dont use tanks they use the Buggy Veichle things.

Isnt Rich's army from Vraks? If i were to do a FW fight Elysians fluff wise wernt on Vraks :p

If I recall, many of the forces from Vraks managed to escape via a warp rift. I don't know if they were all CSMs though.
