I actually like the GW plastic glue (for plastic models obviously). I find it bonds faster, and the substance itself is sticky enough to hold the pieces together by itself without you needing to hold it in place or use Zip Kicker.
For metal models, or any combination of metal and plastic, you're going to need a super glue of some sort. I use Zap-a-Gap, but the GW brand should work just as well. The key is to use the Zip Kicker on the metal pieces so that it bonds faster. In case you didn't know, Zip Kicker is a spray that accelerates the glue to cure faster, literally in seconds. You can pick that up at BG too.
