How are the points determined?

Tourney Report - "We're being jammed... RASPBERRY JAMMED!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXKOsajNZY4&feature=youtu.be&t=48s

Hey all! It was so great to see so many of you playing X-Wing - I hope you all had a good time. I am running one of my old standards:

======================================================
PTL Soontir And 2x Bounty Hunter
======================================================
100 points

Pilots
------

Soontir Fel (34)
TIE Interceptor (27), Push the Limit (3), Shield Upgrade (4)

Bounty Hunter (33)

Bounty Hunter (33)
======================================================

Round 1 vs Ben

Ben is flying two B-Wings, both with Sensor Jammers and Heavy Laser Cannons. Dutch is flying with an Ion Turret and R2 D2. I think there is another upgrade in there, but it did not come into play from my memory.

On to the game! Ben and I fly to a draw! We both destroy no ships. He never gets a good shot at Soontir, and only gets a little damage through on my Bounty Hunters. I get the B-Wings down a bit, and then I attempted to focus on Dutch to try and get a kill. That clock seemed to be going double time this whole match, and in the end we needed one more turn to either get Dutch off the field or one of my ships. This was a great game that just reinforced how strong of an upgrade that Sensor Jammer really is. It is incredible.

Round 2 vs Dave

Dave admits that he brought this list specifically to kill my list this week! A Hard Counter! Let's see how this goes. :D

Dave is running 3x B-Wings - All of them with Fire Control Systems and Heavy Laser Cannons. I know that he is packing a couple of Flechette Torp's and munition failsafes as well. Those Fire Control System'd Heavy Laser Cannons are a  NIGHTMARE for my list. I have no idea what I am going to do about them, but I know they are going to eat up my Bounty Hunters fast.

We set up to joust with in the middle with the B Wings and the Bounty Hunters. Soontir is set up to flank, but not too far away. Once we get to firing range it gets ugly for me really fast. He focused fire on one of my BH's and it is down to one hull at the end of the round. Soontir was able to get behind the B-Wings and I combined fire to do the same to one of the B-Wings. Soontir is able to finish that Bwing off prior to it getting a shot off next round, but the writing is on the wall. One BH goes down in short order and the other BH is getting hit hard and is target locked from the Fire Controls.

It's Soontir vs two B-Wings in the end. I make it interesting and almost get one of the other B's. We both agree that if I was able to get that last hull point off, that Soontir would win that dog fight. He ended up spreading the B-Wings out a bit so that I couldn't stay behind both, an incredible play that won the night for him.  A great game that was very challenging!

Round 3 vs Matt

Matt is running a double Push the Limit interceptor build with a defender packing a Heavy Laser Cannon. His Interceptors are Carnor and Soontir.

Matt and I have a fun game. His Interceptors end up running down one flank really fast! I maneuver my Soontir behind a rock to make shots a bit more difficult. We shoot each other for a few turns before I finally crack the egg - The defender. After this, I was able to spread my Bounty Hunters out and remove a lot of the Interceptors options, which ultimately killed them. Matt smoked my Soontir in the process, and we agree that my Soontir was likely just a poor clone of the original. We named him "Soooontir".

A win, a loss, and a draw - a weird night! Thanks again to everyone! It was great seeing you all.
Be the positive change you want to see.

Ben: The points are determined by how you do in your match. A match win is 5 points, a modified match win (when a game goes to time and is close) is 3 points, and a draw is 1 point. The number in parentheses is the margin of victory, based on how many points each player destroyed. Check the tournament rules (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf) for details.

Hello, had a great time on Thursday, Represented the good ol' Empire with this list:

Turr Phennir w/ Veteran Instincts (26)
Howlrunner w/ Swarm Tactics (20)
Dark Curse (16)
Academy Pilot x3  (36)
98 points

In all three games I played, I had twice as many ships as my opponent, and with 98 points, I always had initiative (important for Mr. Phennir)

Game 1 vs. Bill
Bill ran Han with cracken & Gold squadron w/ ion. In this game I discovered that dark curse's ability applies to Han. Never thought about it before. A lot of mistakes on both sides in this game, playing out of order, etc. We didn't stress out about it too much, though. Blocking was my friend, and once Han was out of the picture, there was only so much the other guys could do. The y-wing had some horrible rolls, he kept rolling blanks.

Game 2 vs. Chris.
Chris had Corran, Biggs, and Blount w/ assault missilles. Chris flew his ships in formation to get biggs' protection. Due to having 6 firing arcs and a little luck, i was able to pick off corran early. The assault missile damaged three of my ships, but at that point, biggs and blound just didn't have the firepower to survive.

Game 3 vs. Paul
At this point me and paul were both undefeated. I didn't think I'd get this far, because some of the lists were scary. (like the double firespray list) Paul had Rexler w/HLC, Soontir, and carnor Jax. in the first or second round of firing, I took out Soontir, and he claimed Howlrunner soon after. There was a lot of blocking and messy movement for a while, then Phennir went down. There was a turn where Paul moved the defender 4 straight towards one of my TIEs. when he placed the maneuver template, I was like, "he's going to bump! no shot.", but when placing, my tie got moved a bit, he squeezed in, we called it as a bump,  but it was so hard to be sure. I feel bad because with the way the game went, if he had taken out that tie, the whole game would have been different. Ended at time with me destroying 73 points, and him 70. Modified win for the tournament win. Great finishing game. Still haunted by that bump call.

Sorry to be so late in posting. I've been waiting until I have time to write a full report on my tournament. Oddly, I'm at work, but don't tell anybody.  :-X

I was flying for the Emperor, with my winning squad from the previous tourney:

Rexler Brath w/HLC
Soontir Fel w/PTL
Carnor Jax

I went 3-0 two weeks earlier, so I was pretty confident.

My first opponent was Matt, who was running an almost identical squad. He had a PS1 TIE Defender and PTL on both Soontir and Carnor. We had a fun, close game. (Sorry, I'm terrible with details of individual games.) We ended up with just the two Defenders on the board. We flew around for a bit before we both had a shot at each other. Because of my higher pilot skill, my guy shot first, and fhished off his Defender.

My second opponent was Ben, who had a Y-Wing with an ion cannon and two B-Wings with HLC and Sensor Jammer. I had never gone up against a ship with SJ, so I was worried. The first few shots were frustrating as the SJ negated one hit on each attack. But I concentrated fire and I think I took out one B-Wing before knocking out the Y-Wing and its pesky ion cannon. (Not a big fan of ion cannons. Can you tell?) I think I lost Carnor and Soontir, but was able to win with a well-placed shot from my Defender. (I could be wrong. Ben, if I am, I'm sorry.) It was another very fun game, though. This matchup definitely will make me take a second look at Sensor Jammers.

I won't repeat Ron's report about our final match. Going in, I knew we were both unbeaten. I also knew that because he had five ships in front of him, I was going to have to destroy more than a couple to take the win. About the bump, don't worry about it, Ron. It's one of those judgement calls that you have to make in the heat of the moment. No regrets. It was an amazing, and once again fun, matchup. I couldn't believe that the margin of victory was just three points. I don't think I've ever had a game be so close. All credit goes to Ron. He flew his mini swarm expertly. I made a couple of mistakes, and that made the difference. I think the dice were pretty fair for once. We both had some amazing rolls. I would love to have been able to finish the game.

The most surprising thing is that 3-point loss dropped me from tied for first to third place. I don't think I'll ever understand the points system Fantasy Flight uses. But I had fun, which is the point in the end.

Also, thanks to David for giving me part of his prize. It certainly softened the blow of losing that final match.

I have to work on the Sept. 18, so I won't be able to be part of that tourney. But I plan to be at the store this Thursday for some free play. Maybe we can break out the big boys for some epic play again.

Definately up for epic, want to try out that shiny new defender. Or HWK.
