WargamesCon Summary
« on: June 11, 2013, 11:04:23 AM »
Sup yall!

Had a good time in TX for WargamesCon minus some issues with the tourny.  We played 7 games over the weekend and also had a 3 game Doubles tourny on Friday.  First I ll tell you how I did and then break down my review of the event.

Doubles tourny.  Hans and I were playing SW/Tau and had 2 awesome games where we dominated our opponents but in the 3rd round we played a Double IG FW army with 12 Sabre Platforms and 9 Thudd guns and managed to pull out mid points.  Because of this we placed 3rd in the doubles tourny but also won best Sportsman for the Doubles.

Hans and Troy - Best Sportsman in Doubles - we won some beer glasses and $50 to spiky bits store!!

Singles Tourny.  We played 4 games the first day and I went 2-2 for this.  First game I played a GK player and managed to wipe him off the board in the top of the first turn (game ends after 15 min).  Second game was against Alan of the ETC playing an IG FW army with Sabres and Thudds and I lost horribly, everything I did went bad.  3rd game was against Tau and again I got max points.  4th game against another IG FW was a little better and I managed to get mid points.  This took me out of the top 16 and placed me in the middle of the road for the second day.

The second day the tourny was plit into a 16 man Main Tourny and a Rogue Trader Tourny for the remaining 100-200 people I went 2-1.  This was a 3 game tourny and my first game was against a Tau/SM player and I wiped him off the board in the 4th round.  2nd game was against a Slannesh Daemon army while brutal I pulled away with another wipe in the 4th round.  This placed me on table 1 for the 3rd and final game.  I played a Eldar/Tau army with cover save shennanigans and Wraithguard.  I came away with a minor loss/draw and got a little less then mid points.  I managed to keep him at mid points but it was enough.  The guy I played is the ETC coach and it was a great game.  Because we had such a tough game it enabled the IG FW army on table 2 to leap frog me in the standings.  I placed 3rd in the RT tourny and missed best overall by about 3 points.

Congrats to Ben Mohile for winning the main 16 man Tourny and overall Champ of WargamesCon!  Well deserved sir!!

Now for my review of the event.  The missions were terrible and very ill concieved.  This left a sour taste in our mouths as they were really bad.  FW is a mistake in any GT type setting.  The stuff is so poorly balanced that it can be used to break all kinds of things it doesnt belong.  Casual games, tournies for fun sure but in a GT no way.

I have found out however that the TO's for the event realized the issues with the missions and FW and will be making changes for next year.  This has me hopeful and will get me to come back to TX if it is true (which I dont doubt in the least).

Overall Austin is a great place and I had alot of great games with awesome people.  Clan Rocksmacker performed very well and im looking forward to many more events.. Next up NOVA!!

Nice recap.  It's a bummer the structure and scoring was so weird.

Nicely done though.  Grats, guys.

Speaking of structure...we got a doubles coming up, where are the scenarios?!

On a related note, really nice to see the recap of how well you guys did.  I'd heard a lot of really good things about this tourney the last couple of years.  Nice to hear first hand experience.

The scenarios are currently on this week's "to do" list.  It's looking really good right under the "get 10 year anniversary party together" thing.  Hung up a little on that one.
