Conquest
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:37:23 PM »
Anyone proxy this guy? If so what are people thinking about him. Heck, even if you haven't what do you think?

I really like him on paper. The only thing I'm not in love with is Creeping Barrage. Still, I feel like in 50pts he solves problems for casters who maybe only want one jack by virtue of just being a Colossal (no disruption, can't be placed, etc). There just seem to be a lot of great synergies out there -- Superiority, Fire for Effect, Broadsides, etc.

I feel like every Khador caster has at least one spell or ability that maximizes warjacks - most, it would seem, would prefer running only 1-2 (correct me if I'm wrong).

So far the ones I'm not sold on putting the Conquest with are the Old Witch, Karchev, and maybe Vlad1 (maybe). The Old Witch has Augury which is really cool, and it could be fun to place Creeping Barrage templates down on models stuck in Field of Talons. And Field of Talons and Gallows can help the Conquest engage enemies. I guess its not that I think it would be bad, I think I just need to see it in practice since it feels like you have to earn it with her.

Karchev has Unearthly Rage and I guess Conquest screens the big guy, but what else? Tow doesn't work here, and Sidearms doesn't offer too much. The feat gives a free charge. I think you're better going with multiple heavies than a Colossal here. I feel similarly about Vlad1; I think you want multiple jacks to maximize his feat.

I'm just spitballing here. I haven't played my Khador in a while, but this guy has me excited to play them again.

I agree on your assessments. Karchev is especially sad.

I am at least happy they are not super-amazing-need-to-be-in-every-list quality.

Definitely. I was really worried about that, too.

However, I doubt I'll be taking Harkevich without one.

Harkevich totally needed this thing. I mean, the Behemoth is/was a great option, but I think this steals the show. Conquest, Demolisher and Black Ivan sounds like a kickass battlegroup. Maybe toss in Sylys to upkeep Escort for you.

I am pretty happy with their overall power level. I don't think they're needed to win, and they aren't for every list/caster. As much as I love the Stormwall I don't think he has a home in every list. There are a few casters that make him bonkers and then some that are borderline. Not sure how many casters I like Hyperion with either.

I have a feeling more infantry will die to the POW 6 barrage than the POW 12 covering fire. Armor in the 12-16 range will probably tempt fate a lot and pay for it.

ARM12 would be silly to chance it. Still, how many ARM12 units want to be near this thing? ARM14-16 would chance it and probably get away with it most of the time.

The 12's from the Cyclone are superior because its effectively a guaranteed deterrent. It won't bag the kills, but it doesn't really have to in order to be the better option.

Yeah, on average rolls even steel heads and devil dogs will make it through, not to mention heavier stuff like troll champions and forge guard
