A silly question about the force organisation chart.
« on: August 07, 2011, 08:46:08 PM »
I have read the relevant entries in the codex and core rulebook for the force organization chart but, I was wondering if when it says "3 heavy support" or "3 elites", if that is the MAXIMUM number of units of that type you can legally field.
Thanks,
blundering noob, Henry

Indeed it is. If you see a range from 0-3 you can bring none but no more than 3

HQ 1-2
Troops 2-6
Elites 0-3
Heavy Support 0-3
Fast Attack 0-3

Ya its a maximum of 3 of that choice. Dedicated Transports do not take a force organization slot and count as the unit type of the unit taking it for all means. So if you Have Terminators that take a Land Raider as a Dedicated Transport it does not take up a Heavy Support slot and it is counted as being an Elite.

Short answer, yes, limited by the number prescribed by the FOC.

Do be aware that throughout the game, some units can circumvent FOC limits.

One example off-hand is Lesser Daemons. They count as Troops for the purposes of scoring objectives, but their number do not count against the FOC's maximum value.

Others can effectively manipulate the FOC, like the Space Marine Master of the Forge who allows Dreadnoughts, normally an Elite choice, to be taken also as Heavy Support choices.

Yup also Taking a Chapter Master or a Space Marine Captain will let you take an Honor Guard Squad which will not take any Force Organization Slot

That's the basic force org then it gets funny when you look at armies like Daemons and Spacewolves where you can have more HQs than that (wolves get up to 4) and when a certain HQ can make units that are normally elites count as troops. ^_^
So I win right?
You're not even playing.
So I'm winning?
Yes Alley, you're winning.

Thanks! Kind of a bummer though, because I don't like doing upgrades just to fill in points. Oh well, I'm sure a Syrabite and a Hekatrix or two, and lots of expensive and probably useful weaponry should do the trick.
