The Trouble with Changelings
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:13:43 PM »
I'm happy the ethereal look of my Changeling's body, but that's about it. I wanted liquid metal arms (think T-1000), but these look lifeless and I'm not sure what they need, but I'm sure it's more than a coat of black wash. I also got stumped when I started working on the staff, lost the end vision, which is something I need when painting.

So... I'll take any advice or direction you kind folks can give me here. Think I'll set this aside for a time and work on some Blue Horrors. I just hate leaving things half-finished.

Try a wash of blue, or purple. that will give it a ghostly/ethereal look, then dry brush with white.

I agree with the blue, maybe highlight with blue to break up all the metal.

Before I read the post I saw the picture and thought "That sucks dude, how are you going to prime the arms after doing such a nice setup on the cloak?"

Ha! That the arms still look pewter, that's what's messing with my head here!

I think I can combine these arms suggestions with some others.

First a black wash, just to darken the lines. Then blue and/or purple wash. (On top of the metallic color, should look very nice.) Dry brush on a bit of Chainmal, Mithril and white.

Has anyone here combined white and the metallic colors, and can tell me if that works? I was thinking about that to highlight.

I don't have blue wash yet, but after checking it out online, it'll be a homecoming. Should have had that a long time ago. Wednesday night, hold the register open for $3.70+tax!

No, but have you heard of Magic? They should have given you a case of Devlan Mud to sell at PAX as well. :)

You could always fade it to another metalic color or base color.

I faded my nightbringer from black to gold in certain area's, metallic's arn't as easy to fade as base color's but it can work.
