Pick an army.

As for what to use, you ignore all advice anyway so why would anyone bother? Play with what you like. Read the cards/book for yourself and figure out the synergies. If you can't do that you will suck anyway.

thats not true, i listened. in fact i have consistently fielded skirmishers and have been getting increasingly aggressive with my warcaster each game. im just looking to have a small shooty army to play around with. protectorate will remain my main army.

ive found synergies for cygnar on the book/cards etc. i was just asking for advice. as i thought the reaper was a good jack haha ;D

in fact, as far as advise, i made a list culminating all the advice i got from people like you, ian, and rick and actually beat jay last time i was able to play. in fact it was a battle where, as you said i should do, i was never on the reaction side of things even with jay going first. dont get me wrong though, jay had a very tough list, it just came down to him getting caught by gaze of menoth with his warcaster.

so, ive made my first official step up on the ladder  ;D

for cygnar. i have a list i want to proxy. is anyone able to come down maybe next wednesday or friday before dnd?

ok so this is the list im running currently in proxied status.

pHaley +5

Cyclone 9
Cyclone 9

arcane tempest gun mages w/ UA 6 + 3
arcane tempest gun mages w/ UA 6 + 3

journeyman warcaster
1 points floating

the idea (if not obvious) is to use the gun mage ua's ability to give either critical extra damage die, +4 range, or knockback to my cyclone which has two d3 shot weapons potentially shattering all in its path. the journeyman is to give his 3 focus to the jacks on haley's feat turn so she has more of a control range (haleys feat gives a extra attack to everything for 1 round) also, for objectives i have 4 3" zones i can fire to ward off units and control my opponents path. if you couldnt tell, i think cyclones are really awesome, i like the model too!

please dont spam this board with "stick to protectorate, you ignore advice, i dont like you, or just play it" as other new players getting cygnar could find this useful as well. i would like to know if i am running the synergy correctly or not though.

I suggest you check the Journyman's card. I am not a Cygnar expert but IIRC he has to martial one of the jacks to give it focus. So the list doesn't work quite the way you are indicating.

Interesting definition of spam.
I honestly do not think you will appreciate the full synergies and gaps in a list until you play it. Some obvious shortcomings and synergies can be spotted (like snipe and long gunners = good) but until you get the list on the field and play it several times I don't think you will really know.
One reason for this is that a list that I can make work might not be your play style and visa-versa.
In addition things that you think at first will be amazing may turn out not to be that useful. Especially when you explore how they relate to various scenarios.

As for sticking to one army, I strongly recommend it. Having a deeper selection of models to play with is better than having 4 armies at 35pts each. It also forces you to REALLY learn how to use each unit. For example I thought I knew how to use Nyss hunters... until a year later I realized that I was still learning more about how to best utilize them.
It also removes some variables while you are learning the game. Using the same caster consistently allows you to learn their spells and feat better, figure out what your style of playing them is etc. The same goes for units or overall army composition.

Also you do not listen to advice. And I will say so if I so wish.

ok, i thought about that afterwards myself, also same deal with the arcane tempest ua. since the list is kind of a fail, i will remain to the protectorate. perhaps we will field a cyclone as a "captive/stolen 'jack" haha.

if i didnt listen to advice, how did i win a game against a challenging opponent? i listened to everyones advise:
ian: include skirmishers and faster stuff. while i still didnt have great speed, i did add skirmishers and took his advise of using their guns to harrass until a charge was advantageous.

rick: be aggressive with your warcaster and pop the feat sooner than later. i did keep kreoss right behind my men for most of the game (he had to move back once because a spear troll had direct charge lane open if i didnt)

matt: stay the aggressor and dont allow your opponent to dictate the course of the battle. done and done sir  ;) if you think you want to keep the bastions do it. i did, they have proven useful in smaller games.
