This event will be run as a 2v2 Free For All (grand melee).  There will be as many teams of 2 PC's as required and each team will fight in the arena against all other teams at the same time.  Your 7th level character will be provided at random, as will your partner.  (Players will not chose their character or their partner for this event).

The is to be NO communication between player's (in terms of game play) once the battle begins.  Teams will be given a few minutes to discuss strategy before doing battle.  Penalty for violating this rule will be taking damage equal to your characters surge value.

Wizard
Rogue
Barbarian
Warlord
Monk

This list will be updated as the week progresses (as I make more PC's).

New PHB out.  Probably a neat idea to throw some stuff in from there.

PHB3 is due out 3/16, so this tournament is probably not the right one to start using it in.

So, when the game starts you can not talk to your ally at all?

he never said anything about written communication or telepathy;)

most likely the outcome would be the same if you could or could not talk since usually a new player wont know what to tell his partner anyways and a pro player know what everything does and what he needs to do anyhows. but thats just my two cents...

Remember, the rules say "no communication".  This would mean no writing, etc.

Really, the rule that will be enforced is no communication about the way to move a character, attack, use a power, item, etc. between all players.  We have a very, very large percentage of really new players coming out for this and I'd like to let them sink or swim on their own.  I also want to avoid the situation where one person effectively plays another persons character.  I'm sure anyone reading this post knows what I mean.

You will also not be allowed to "encourage" members of another team to make any sort of move, attack, etc.

We will take the time to go over combat advantage and how to attain it before the event begins.  I will also be giving players a fair amount of time to discuss strategy before the event begins.

With respect to PHB3, Battleground has it and it is for sale.  WotC allows us to now get the product and sell it a week or so before the street date.  With that said, I am not going to make any sort of effort to include a character from the book.  There is a chance one will appear, but I won't go out of my way to create one.

I'll see what I can do.  I'm going to roll up a couple new characters tonight after I sort through the new D&D Encounters stuff.

The event was a great success.  We has 4 two person teams and I think everyone had quite a bit of fun.

If I remember correctly:

Rouge + Monk
Druid + Fighter
Fighter + Monk
Barbarian + Sorcerer

That could be wrong, however.

The winning team was the Monk + Rogue combo played by Mike "Cookie" Cook and Brian Luscom.

Congrats guys!
