Looking for feedback on DE Archon Paint job.

Hey guys, I am at peace with the fact that I'm not a studio quality painter. I'm also at peace with the fact that Dark Eldar is definitely a challenge to do the models justice. So, without further adeu, here is my archon. My questions / requests are as follows:

Does it look decent enough to be considered tabletop quality, or at least quasi do the army justice?


How could I improve this model? (Keep in mind my only real skills atm with painting are dry brushing, using washes, edge highlighting / line work. A strong desire to get better, but am not sure where to start.).

I would like the truth above all else. Thanks in advance!

I think you should make them look more like dark eldar models and less like a blank square.

Try right clicking the "blank square" and select open in new tab. They should work then.

It's definitely tabletop quality.

My first reaction is that the colors other than the black armour plates are a little flat (cool highlights on the black!).  Try adding some more dark/cool washes to the recesses, and doing a line highlight of much lighter colors on the edges.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Is there a wash I Can use on the black armor to stand it out a little more? A buddy of mine told me to make the black armor pop, I can do a 50/50 mix of a very dark teal, and chaos black. Base coat in that, then wash black and highlight like I Did. Are the armor highlights looking ok? This army is definitely a challenge and I'm starting from new models so I get an opportunity at a clean slate. I don't care about studio quality, but I'd like for my models to look good at standing height during games.

To me the armour already looks pretty cool, but it's hard to tell just from a phone photo I guess.  Anyway if your whole army was painted up like this guy it would already be above average for what you see at BG tournaments.

thank you. I really appreciate it. when you spend good money, you really want your stuff to look good. if you guys are interested, I'm going to try my hand at some kabalite warriors tonight.  I'll post pics
