The Return of the Mini-Pocalypse?
« on: September 23, 2013, 07:19:44 PM »
A while back Ben from Plainville had run a 500 point per a person Mega-battle type event on Thursday 40k. The idea turned out to be a hit at the time since it was something like 8 people vs 9 people for a total of something like 18 500 point Armies on the table in a game that took something like 2-3 hours. Does anyone have any interest in possibly participating in another one sometime in the near future?

I thought about this awhile back. That was a fun event. We put it on so that I could see lots of 500 point armies at once, to get a feel whether 500 point tournaments could be viable.

Did I make a thread for that event? I remember each phase was limited to 5 minutes, and that seemed to keep things on track pretty well. I might want to scale that time down too. Rounds 1-2 (5 minutes/phase), rounds 3-4 (4 minutes), rounds 5+ (3 minutes). That should help keep people's attention as armies are annihilated.

The key was keeping things simple. No ridiculous rules from books that no one else has read. Put some objectives on the board, the sides fight for the objectives, the winners win and the losers lose.

Gotta happen.  It's been rolling around my think tank.

This sounds absolutely awesome, I recently picked up the new Apocalypse book @BG.. great rules, it would be nice to play without buying 4000 points of models.

This is an excellent idea, one that I've been discussing with Chase for a while.  It's an excellent opportunity for new hobbyists to participate in something truly epic, which is good for the community and good for the store.  It's also one metric f***-ton of fun.  I am more than willing to run something like this, or even two somethings like this so that Plainvillites and Abingtonians alike are happy.  If you guys want to see this happen, say so.  If I get the go ahead, I'll make it happen.
Too busy being AWESOME to listen to your whining.

I think we did this in a couple hours on a Thursday night. If people are interested, I'm pretty sure we can get a weekend spot.

Say, what do Sundays look like for players these days?

The "rules" as much as I laid them out.

That page and the following page contain every record of the event.

Ya it was a long while ago. It has kind of been tossing around in my head ever since 6th edition hit. I felt now with a fair amount of new Codexes we could take a crack at doing it again.

Yea well the new Apocalypse rules say that any unit is a scoring unit, kinda like how it was in 4th ed. So how fun would that be to bring a list with no set FOC ;)
