Tau tanks 2+ cover save
« on: December 12, 2012, 10:27:18 AM »
So I am reading that in 6th edition you can equip Tau tanks to have a 2+ cover save....how is this possible?

It's conditional.

Disruption Pods give the tank Shrouding (+2 to your cover save) and the shot has to be from more than 12' away from the vehicle. So because there skimmer's they always have a 3+ cover save from any shot more than 12' away, if they go flat out they get a 4+ cover save with Shrouding its a 2+ (again from shots more than 12' away). This wargear costs 5 points for Tau vehicles :)

Makes piranha's very viable. I usually give one a fusion blaster, targeting array, and Disruption Pods. I hold it in reserves and when it comes on it blast forward as fast as possible and 12' out from anything that can hurt it.

A Tau Tank is a Skimmer Tank. They have the Jink Special Rule so when they move they get a 5+ cover they Disruption pods grant you Shroud which improves any cover save by 2 if they don't have one gives them a 5+ cover. So if your Tank moves it gets a 3+ cover. When you move flat out you get a 4+ cover from Jink. This is Improved by 2 by shroud granting 2+ cover. This only happens as Jhobin said if the Model firing is more than 12" away.

I will say right now it feels a little broken...my hammerheads essentially only ever die to CC< never shooting.  But on the other hand, firewarriors still kinda suck, and i don't think anyone would complain if you took a pure Tau force.

If your getting a 2+ then your not shooting so it doesnt matter really.

It matters in getting into position. If you can get your str8 sp1 melta weapon safely into a good spot its worth going flat out, plus 3+ cover save is still good.

I like Fire Warrriors I wish I had more painted, I'm working on my third 12 man. For 10 pts you get a str5 30' rapid fire weapon with a 4+ save that's hard to ignore. I think in mass numbers say 6x 12x units it can be a strong army. Granted the rest of your army would probably have to be broadsides
