Nids
« on: November 10, 2012, 08:17:32 PM »
So my friends and I started playing again. I play alot more often then them they haven"t played for 10 years. One of them plays nids. we played for the first time a couple of knights ago. One of my friends didn't have his army so borrowed one of my and made a list with draigo 6 palis and 10 termis. and went againt my friends old nids. well he ended up complaining that the grey knights must be undefeated and that they were way to powerful and i tried to explain that he didn't have any of the good pieces and that when he starts to invest a little bit into his nids to update them that he will see. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice to give to him on what to start with. what should he get were should he spent points on necessary upgrades. he has from what i can remember 2 canifexes hive tyrant genestealers about 24 3-4 warriors and these guys old models that looked like they had fans for hands maybe old warriors or maybe old body guard. his first big problem was little to no shooting the second was lack of knowledge on the army now. he has the codex now so that will help some but if i could give him advice that would be awesome. we are starting low 1250. what upgrades or even a couple of models that would help him out. I am for the time being trying to avoid flyers until everyone gets used to the rules of their army and the new edition.
also one question can you shoot through close combat if some of your models are spread on either side.

    g g g g
  g g d g g
     g g g

g g g g gg g g
g g g gg g gg
set  up like this where g=genestealers
x was the termis and d was draigo?

Grey Knights dominated Tyranids in 5th. In 6th, the Tyranids have more than a fighting chance. In general, 6th Edition is a shooting edition, so only dakka units really need apply.

Tyranids need MOAR PSYKERS. Biomancy is where it's at for Tyranids. Also, they have awesome Flying Monstrous Creatures. That's how Tyranids win these days.

Yes, you can shoot "around" a close combat. Follow normal rules for determining whether target unit has cover (i.e., intervening models).
