2000K + Point Games
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:13:39 PM »
Hi everyone,

So I haven't really heard or seen anyone comment lately on their experiences with playing 2K and up point games.  I've played a few now, and would like to share my experiences with them, and would like feedback as well from those of you who have tried them.

Specifically, I'd like to know how having multiple force organization charts worked for you.  Did you notice any drastic changes in your games (aside from the obviousness of there being more models on the table)?

In my experiences, they've been fairly consistent with games of equal size in 5th edition.  Mind you, none of my friends have any Flyers to use, nor have we made use of the fortifications available either.  And from what I gather, it generally behooves players to bring balanced lists for pick-up games (ie - Having adequate Troops, having balanced numbers of Elite, Fast Attacks, and Heavy Supports, and having at least 1-2 units with Skyfire).  With the various missions that allow non-Troop choices to score objectives, balanced lists have become more vital to casual game play (which I personally like a lot).

If anyone has had anymore positive (or negative) experiences with games of this size, please share them.

Thanks!

I played a 3k point game and though I ultimately chose to spend points on allies fortifications instead of another primary detachment, I played around with the points to see how going with another detachment would have worked out.

Honestly, I don't think it's that bad -- it pretty much balances out against the fact that your opponent now has the points to beef up their allied detachment.

Are there ways to cheese it out with certain lists? Probably, but those same lists are cheesey sub 2k anyways.

I play 2k+ every game and have yet to see a real problem with armies.

I have played a few 2k games....but neither myself or my opponents have really used the double force org chart, it doesnt really fit well into 2k in my opinion...and i dont really have the models to really take advantage of it

In the games I've played at 2K and above, they've generally been around 3K (I even played a 4K game, which was actually quite fun).  I can see how not having certain models to fill in for your non-Troop choices be hard on you for a game that size.  Of course, having my Battle Company from the Megabattle a couple of years ago, I was able to fill in the compulsory for 2 charts pretty easily too.  That being said though, one of my games was exactly my Battle Company (minus 2 Tactical Squads), with 2 more HQ's.

I have to say it was nice getting to see that many of those Ultramarine models see combat together on the tabletop again.  :D
