Gamer's Choice Events?!
« on: July 10, 2012, 04:30:21 PM »
I had an idea about creating a Gamer's Choice tournament or game event in Abington once a month. The idea is that the player in the community create unique and creative game formats that are competitive, but break free of traditional mission based games. I have been doing this somewhat at the store (the tomb world raid, team capture the flag, and the 7 man-free-for-all 1500 pt King of the Hill) and there has been a real taking to the custom formats. There would be prizes perhaps; ten dollars to play with the pool split between the store and winner, or everyone brings bitz and the bitz pool becomes the prize. The objective could be for a store title or trophy. We would create prizes along these lines (ideas that shift from month to month).
This could start in July (maybe the 28th). I was thinking about running a 515 pt (515 is just a odd number and feels right for this) death man squad seek and destroy. HQs would have to been taken along with 4 troop models. The rest of the points can be in anything but vehicles or other HQs. Every model in the squad acts as an independent character and can break rank if wanted. This would be played over a multiple table play area with everyone at the event playing at the same time.
The Objective: each player selects one model in their squad to be the carrier. the ideas is to hunt and kill every one else carrier, scoring a kill point for every carrier killed. At the end of five rounds, whoever has the most kill points wins. The fluff is that the carrier is holding something of high importance that you would never want the enemy to have. The carrier could be marked by a piece of masking tape under base or written down and given to myself or store employee. If this goes well I did create rules for a 4 team HQs only DEATH BALL for next month. What does everyone think?

Hey Brandon,
Good idea. We played a 4 team (500pt) game using King of the hill as the scenario the other day and it went really well. We reduced the requirement to 1 HQ and 1 troop and had a blast.

As we're trying to use Saturdays as our 40k day in Abington this is a great idea to kick around and learn the game and get back to playing for a bit of fun. Hell we'll even be able to use FW lists ;)

Cheers,
Alan

Yes, I too think that we could run a FW list at some point! Lets plan on the first event to be on Sat. July 28th. What time would work best? We need to figure out if there will be prizes or not for the first event. Can we drum up some more players to make this event even bigger? I know 3 players (including myself) who will be entering. Chase or Derek is there a way either of you can help get the word out? I am hoping to really get the community going again at full speed. And sorry Robert, however, if their is both support from the Plainville community and the store I could come up your way and run Player's Choice events there. We can work that out. No reason why there can not be two seasons that lead to the Best of Player's Choice event that crosses both stores. We could keep track of the points/wins/other stuff and select players from both stores to compete in a very unique 40k challenge. In this self-born format the possibilities are endless.    Robert, let me know if there is any interest and I will post for your area. This is going to be a lot of fun!

Yup.

Write up exactly what it is you plan to do, how you plan to do it (rules), when it will begin, what players are expected to bring, if there will be a fee or not, and I'll post it around and let people know about it.

Ooo I played the 7 man free for all with you a while back, everyone picks an HQ from their codex and its like an RPG style format.. VERY VERY FUN.

Plus you only have to paint 1 model  ;D

Yes I do think that this will be fun. So this will run July 28th (sat). I will make a full rules post for the fist event. The question I have then is are we going to have a prize pool? Talk about it and let me know. I will post rules tomorrow and email them to the store. This is going to run in Abington first I think. I have recived more interest there, so until I am asked or told otherwise Abington it is. And start thinking about HQ deathball next month!

Brandon.

PS: We should try to get a head count before the 28th

I'll join in as long as the entrance price isn't too high (don't mind $5 at all, $10 might be a bit much imo)
