Ard Boyz: In case you didn't know....
« on: March 20, 2012, 01:13:06 PM »
Ard Boyz events no longer exist.

GW has canned them in what I feel is a very good move.

yeah. ard boyz kinda sucked and had the stupidest missions ever......though I do enjoy an ocassional 2500 pt game.

Did I mention you guys should have a 2500 tournament sometime?

Anyway, how did you hear this, do you have a link?

I speak with my GW rep every Monday.  He had just come from a meeting where they were told about this.

There are currently no plans for a 2500 point tournament.  Anything is possible though.  :)

But last year's mission where the Grey Knights and Daemons swapped traitors was a really good idea! I guess they're all tuckered out from not proof-reading.

In all seriousness, awesome. That's two months cleared up on the 40k schedule for BG tournaments.

Exactly.

Now I get to do what I want.  I told Chris (our GW rep) that it was awesome news for several reasons and that I was happy I didn't have to tell him that BG wasn't going to run the prelims or semis this year.

I had exactly zero intention of hosting Ard Boyz in 2012 or going forward.

Soo......that indicates you were unhappy with running them.  May I ask why?  (I know why players were unhappy with them)

It's not an efficient use of the time slot / effort that goes into it.

40k events, whereas it might not seem like it, take a LOT of time to prepare for.  Ard Boys takes considerably less time for various reasons, but it still requires time, energy, and though.

It's just big enough where it turns the regulars away for a Saturday, which costs the store money.  It alienates a large part of the community.  It has no entrance fee.  It's supposed to "drive sales" while people bulk up to 2500 points, but it doesn't.  It's run at 190238982390842093849024 places on the same weekend (prelims).  It doesn't allow me to do what I'd like to do.  It gets in the way of doing something that is better for the community, players, and the store.

Basically, instead of BG running Ard Boys, I can run two more 40k events every year.  The store wins in a huge way, something like 3-4x more players get to play, and it gives me another great reason to ask for more tables / terrain.

Good news! This means I want have to choose between my company picnic, running the Falmouth Roadrace and Ard Boys this year, since all three are always on the same weekend every year!  So yeah Chase, don't plan the BG 40k tourney in August for that same weekend. k?

Hahah!  No promises.

August will likely be a busy 40k month.
