Darkstar at Conflict 2012
« on: January 17, 2012, 10:39:55 AM »
Results:

Bill ended up 3-1-2 final game was playing for 2nd against Alex Fennel - He ended up tying and taking 4th overall.

Troy ended up 3-2-1 final game was playing for 3rd again a fellow GK - He ended up losing and taking 18th overall

Hans ended up 2-3-1 and ended up 30th or so overall.

Thats for 40k Fantasy I cant remember so they will need to update fantasy forum.

Overall Bill did awesome with his Daemons and were proud as hell of him.  I found some holes in my GK army that are getting plugged as we speak and my army will become even more of a pain in the ass.

Also both Darkstar teams took the Doubles event.  Fantasy took the doubles and so did 40k.  Due to circumstances beyond our control the 40k doubles didnt end the way we wanted even though we won.  Thats all im going to say about that.

Good job, team!

I'm interested in the details surrounding the doubles...

I was also at Conflict and I was watching that doubles game, so I can fill you in on the details.

Troy and Bill were playing these two guys who had basically just lucked their way to the top table for the final game. They pretty clearly weren't very good and had fairly substandard lists. Anyway, one of the two guys was playing a DoA Blood Angels list, and it looked like he had a lot of the guys on the table for a 1000 point game. Troy/Bill asked him about the contents of his list a couple of times, and he layed out what was in it, but it still seemed like a lot. So at the end of turn two, either or Troy or Bill (I can't remember which), asked him point blank if he had more than a 1000 points on the table. The guy thinks for a second, gets this sheepish look on his face, and says 'oh....whoops...I think I put my 1750 list on the table'. Long story short, no one believed that he did it on accident, the TO dqed his team, and everyone mocked him for the rest of the weekend, as he richly deserved. Personally, I think he should have been kicked out of the event entirely, but it didn't matter much, as he did terribly in the singles.

I think everyone knew it was an accident, the side effects of far too many rounds in one day. It was certainly a somber end to what should have been an excellent game.

Lame that the team in question got DQ'd...  If it was the final round maybe I would have considered starting the game over, although I guess that may have delayed the award ceremony and whatever else was going on.

Anyways, if only I knew who the other team was. Maybe I could encourage them to play a rematch sometime....

Congrats to Dark Star, putting the team in teamwork.

Little birds told me of events starting an hour and a half late, doubles matches were played on the same day as singles, and a woefully understaffed tournament. It seems the regrettable outcome noted above could have been avoided, prevented and/or remedied had things been run better.

Chase: unfortunately this last round was at about 1 AM. This eludes me to...

Ben: absolutely, I had 6 fun games and going 4th overall with my daemons made me extremely happy but the tournament was horribly run. Everyone just wanted to leave and the tourny overall had a rather agitated feel to it especially on Saturday afternoon.

Meh. Five games or not, midnight or not, I'm a bloody idiot. At the end of the day, I'm the only one that put my army on the table.

But yes, there will be a rematch. Troy, Bill, when are you guys free?

Why dont we schedule a time at Templecon for a good solid rematch.  We will all be there and there will be plenty of tables and so on.

The two people who got DQ'd just won the last BG doubles and are two of the coolest most stand up guys in the local community. They are also very good players and are staples on the regional GT and tourney circuit. Without question they are friends of us at Dark Star and players who we look forward to gaming with and against for a long time.

Sure, that should work for us.

And I don't know who Grandmaster_Octavian is, but I sure like him:)
