Help With Templecon Circle Lists

Templecon Team Tournament Circle Lists

Keith, Danny and I are going to run an all Circle team at Templecon. The three of us are going to each use two different casters, but will stop there when it comes to overlapping FA: C models.

A couple things to keep in mind…

- SR2012
- x2 50pt lists
- Divide & Conquer
- Death Clock

Circle is still new to me in some respects so I’ll explain my logic in selecting my models/units. At least if you disagree you’ll know where I’m coming from. Note: not all my explanations will be good.


List #1:

- Epic Kaya (+3 beast points) = 0
^ Laris (0) = 0
^ Gorax (4) = 1
^ Gnarlhorn Satyr (8) = 8
^ Pureblood Warpwolf (9) = 9
^ Warpwolf Stalker (10) = 10
^ Druid Wilder – 2

- Druids of Orboros (7) w/ Overseer (2) – 9
- Shifting Stones (2) w/ Stone Keeper (1) – 3
- Tharn Bloodweavers – 5
- Thrullg – 3


It’s eKaya so I’m obviously going beast heavy. The Gnarlhorn is present for his animus (charge/slam bonuses). The Gorax buffs the heavies with its animus to help dispatch opposing hard targets and also operates as an initial transfer target given the value to the heavies and Laris. The Stalker (hopefully) murders whatever it needs to – infantry, heavies, etc. The Pureblood provides utility, a solid spray attack, and another strong melee option.

Infantry and solos are where I end up questioning myself a bit. The Wilder is a no-brainer given the fact I have five beasts with solid animi, and will also need some help with fury management and spreading out animi. Shifting Stones are obviously a quality selection for healing, fury management and movement shenanigans, so it’s more about the Druids, Bloodweavers and Thrullg.

Druids are generally a sound option given their versatility, and additional movement shenanigans. The Bloodweavers I like since they’re cheap, pretty self reliant and give me an anti-upkeep option. The Thrullg? I don’t own one yet, but I feel like I ought to. I just wonder if he’s a bit redundant since the Pureblood givens models “Blessed” with his animus, and the Bloodweavers will be on the field. My other options for three points would be either Swamp Gobbers + Blackclad/Reeve Hunter/second Shifting Stones unit.


List #2-A:

I’ve yet to run Grayle so this is more me spit-balling ideas here.

The Gorax and Stalker fulfill similar roles as they did in the above eKaya list. The Stalker in particular is needed as the movement portion of Grayle’s feat, Darkest Night, only triggers on melee attacks. Reach + Berserk should help get moves for some of my models.

I’ve been debating how much he really wants a model with Geomancy. Gallows is his only offensive spell, but it can help bring models closer to Grayle and my other heavy hitters. I went with Megalith since he’s superior to a standard Warden, but if I were to downgrade to a basic one I don’t think it would be a tremendous step backwards.

Now for the Woldwatcher. It’s between him and the Woldwyrd, but I’m going with him initially for a few reasons. 1) Shield Guard. He can take a hit for a key model that’s nearby. 2) He’s tougher. 3) He has two open fists. 4) He still has a ranged attack that turns boxed models into forests. 5) His animus in conjunction with Storm Rager is stupidly good for anti-assassination (+2 ARM, can’t be CRA’ed or CMA’ed, can’t be knocked down, made stationary or pushed).

That said Awareness with the Woldwyrd’s ranged abilities is really hard to pass on. This little dude can help shut down enemy magic and blow up models with upkeeps on them. With Awareness his threat range grows significantly.

Along with the Stalker, the LoTF and the White Manes (probably under the effects of Storm Rager) will be called on take on opposing infantry and generate feat moves. Infantry remains the problem area for me. I like the possibility of Druids augmenting movement from Gallows with Force Bolts to set up assassinations and whatnot. Again, the Bloodweavers are in there because they’re cheap, decent in melee, self reliant, and have an okay toolbox.

Before I get going here I want to preface with a few things that make me hesitant with Morvahna. 1) Playing attrition in death clock. It seems like it could go either way. If it’s going well I can flummox my opponent and maybe get them to chew up more of their time. If it gets dicey on my side then I might waste a lot of my own time making decisions. My other warlocks seem like they’d play faster than her. 2) She ups what needs to be painted. Petty I know, but with an early February deadline and the holidays around the corner painting upwards of 20 models is already an assignment. If it goes to 30 I’m not sure I’ll make to Templecon fully painted. 3) Another petty one but Gallows Groves won’t be out yet. Maybe they’ll be for sale at a PP booth, but they’d change how this army plays.

Anyway, I find beasts both easy and hard to pick for her since she essentially does nothing for them (other than a possibly ARM buff). I went with the Stalker since she also has a feat powered by melee attacks and he’s capable of killing lots of models then sprinting away. The Pureblood, again, provides a spray and utility. The Woldwatcher is an anti-assassination piece for a squishy caster. The Gorax powers up the others and is a transfer option so my heavies can stay in the fight longer.

The part here that’s tricky is that I could easily see myself wanting to cut the Gorax in favor of a Wayfarer and second unit of Shifting Stones. With Harvest getting fury shouldn’t be a problem. Really I only added him to power up the other beasts since she gives them nothing and spare them transfers.

The Wilder helps with fury management and casting animi so Morvahna can sling her spells.

This time I’m pleased with both infantry selections as they bring a lot to the table. Regrowth on either unit can get obnoxious.

Lord of the Feast slips as an assassination option, as well as another model who can have fun on feat turn.

Looking at your first list I would pull out the thrulg as your druids doing counter magic will be able to deflect any offensive upkeeps on your entire force.  As for enemy upkeeps you have blessed from the pureblood worst case scenario.  That saves you 3 points.  And you should be inserting that second unit of shifting stones.  The double teleport will catch a lot of people off guard.  It also offers fury mitigation, a second unit to be able to shift two things a turn or even if you lose one still have one unit active.  Among other things.  I think 2 units with beast heavy lists are a necessity.  Once I put it in 50pts I have never looked back.  This leaves you with 1 point and seeing as we don't have access to gallows groves yet I suggest the swamp gobbers I guess.  Though the stalker can get prowl from the druids if need be.  I really like both the Kayas it is a shame that a second stalker is not an option here.  I have no experience with Grayle so I will leave that one alone.  But By the looks of it I do like the list.
