New to the game looking to learn
« on: December 13, 2010, 05:45:50 PM »
So I think it is finally time to take the plunge and try the game out / build some units. Where / how would I find solid newbie advice in addition to what is given here and how would you suggest a new player to start into this game line?

DO:  Ask Ian for help with learning.  He is a good teacher.
DONT: Ask Rick for help with learning.  He beats on newbs.

The internet can be pretty good.  Battlecollege gives a great run down of units that are usually reliable.  Privateerpress forums can also be decent but be weary of their prejudice when it comes to different builds / units.

Honestly though, this game has so many weird combos and synergies just playing lots and losing lots is where the meat of learning is.  Sounds rather cliche, I'm sure but it's only after losing as much as I have did I learn as much as I have.

Hey! Welcome to the game! Most of the local players show up Thursday nights. I'd recommend stopping by, watching some games, and chatting up our awesome player-base.
