Miniature Mentor

I downloaded the Complete Guide to Miniature Painting by Laurent Esposito Mas off the mini mentor website.

Pros;
Great to get an idea of how to do everything from prepping/priming to blending.
Over the shoulder cam lets you see everything up close
Seeing someone do some of the techniques is way easier then reading about them on a tutorial
It is broken into sections on the download with a order listed. You can go back and rewatch a particular section easily.
It’s almost FOUR hours long.
Anyone with a French accent is funny

Cons;
Good for display pieces, can't imagine anyone blending a whole army this way
There is a guy talking to Laurent through the vid who interrupts him often and is pretty annoying (and Canadian!)
The mini painted is not the same quality as the one shown on the cover of the DVD on the website. Looks like they also edited a lot out as well.
It’s almost FOUR hours long. This put me to sleep.

All and all I thought this was a great intro to painting minis for me since I don't want to paint an army, just pieces for my own amusement.
They show the set up of his work area, how he preps, primes, bases, blends…The blending techniques and color theory were very helpful and useful. I think it's a good product if you are just looking to refine your skill as well. They also show how to paint metal using non metal paints which is cool. I would recommend it :)

Hmm, this sounds useful.

Do you have a link to the website, Jess?

I've watched about half so far and I agree with Jess on all points. The guy with the camera IS annoying.

That sort of level of painting isn't really for doing whole armies unless you don't want to play until you're 74 years old. It's more for the army centerpiece or a competition piece.

Haha! After 40 years, with his army finally complete....

Someone came up with a drinking game for the vid, everytime the canadian says "exactly" you drink :)
