Well, I would love to show you a game, but however I'm on Nantucket, but I've been playing chaos for a while now and I feel like I have a good grip on the army overall. So feel free to ask any questions about the army, possible builds and so on.

I'd be glad to help

Ben

ok so this is my roughly 1500 point army:

chaos sorcerer lvl 2 (MoT, third eye, armor of damnation)
exalted hero (halbred, shield, MoN, stream of corruption, runesword, barbed steed)
his chaos knights x9 he makes 10: (MoK, champ, banner of wrath)

chaos warriors x12 (MoS, shields, champ, banner of wrath)
chaos warriors x12 (" " " ")

chaos spawn of khorne

so how would this do? is this a viable force?

Dave its important to note that the new edition of warhammer fantasy is coming out by the end of July.  Having flipped through the store's copy I can tell you that learning 7th edition only to have 8th come out in less than a month is going to making learning that edition more confusing.

8th changes alot of basics about the game including: movement, unit types, special rules, magic, and army composition.  For example the old way of X number of heroes in a game is not longer the case.  Now your army is built on percentages, ex. 25% of your army is core, up to 25% can be heroes and so on.

are you sure its 25% core? that seems very low. and is it by units or models (like i have 6 units but 36 models.) because if not im not really too interested in buying more than that for a while anyways...

Also, looking at your list, you have taken the same item twice, (Banner of Wrath) which you cannot do. You unfortunately are unable to take the same magic item twice, even if its a Common Magic Item, or Army Specific.

the 25% Core rule is based off of points. So if you have a 1500pt army, you would have to spend a minimum of 25% of your points on core units. You can certainly go over this option, and for Warriors of Chaos fielding the best infantry in the game why wouldn't you? But for powergamers or minmaxers, they wouldn't normally do this.

Just so you also know, You cannot combine certain items, breaking down your Exalted Hero on Barded Steed. You gave him a shield, which is fine, but also a Halberd, You cannot combine the two at the same time. Normally thats not a bad idea, but then you also gave him the Chaos Runesword, which is a great item, but you seem to have wasted some points on the Halberd, which you would certainly never use.

Also, I don't have the book in front of me, but does it say you can take Mutations in addtion to magic items? Such as 50pts of Magic Items AND 25pts of Mutations?

But if you were looking to get an army going, I would certainly go for the Battalion Box set, you get a lot of stuff in it for relatively cheap, I think adding it all up you save roughly 20-30 dollars. You may not think you would ever use the warhounds, but trust me, a 5 dog 30pt screening unit is incredibly valuable in such an elite army. Also they can march block, and possibly get in a flank charge now and then, which is also very handy.

ya, chaos guys get to take x amount of points of magic gear and x amount of points in demonic gifts.  Just depends on whether we're talking about a lord or hero, heroes get 25pts and lords get 50pts respectively.  Only the mighty deamon prince can take 100pts of gifts.... but sad panda that he gets not magic gear.
