Dark Eldar
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:56:11 AM »
I was looking at Eldar for a small side project, but then I saw some of the dark eldar pics and realized they were %1000 more badass

are they still viable?   and are they going to be phased out?

and are the jetbikes/raiders strong units? I like the look of the raiders (pirate ships in 40k? sign me up) and the jetbikes best and if they weren't viable then there would be no point for me.

thanks in advance for any answers or advise

Are you going to be around on Thursday or Friday Tim? If so I can bring my stuff down and show you the models and go over any questions you have about the DE.

As for your two questions here: Jet Bikes are actually the only viable Fast Attack choice the DE have. Hellions are fun but are not effective under the current ruleset.

Raiders are your only Transport, and if you look up Glass Cannon you would see Dark Eldar Raider. Fast Skimmer Armor 10/10/10 Open Topped. The Raider comes with a Dark Lance or for 5points upgrade it to a Disintegrator. Disintegrators have 2 fire modes : Str7 AP2 Large Blast Heavy 1 or Str6 AP3 Small Blast Heavy 3, the range for each mode differs.

So to answer your question a Raider list is very viable but very fragile, it is what I use to run before I lost a lot of models. 6 Raider Squads, 3 Ravagers, 2 Wych Squads mounted up, and Archon with Retinue mounted. That list is 18 Disintegrators and 6 Dark Lances and could be done for around 1500 points. If I got first turn it was brutal if I went second I would have to hope for a lot of misses on the Raiders. The Dark Eldar are a Finesse army, very fragile but very deadly.

awesome,      thanks for the info,

seems like the battalion is a good buy then, with some troops, a raider and 5 bikes.

its silly really, i should be spending money towards ork battlewagons and burnas/lootas, but i just cant control myself, army ADD is a b*tch.

unfortunately i wont be around till saterday, but sometime soon Ill try and catch you during some downtime at the store, b/c id love to talk about the DE and about Skaven. Ive been having a blast reading through the army book, making some lists and what not.

thanks agian for info,   ill see you around

Well I would take this with a grain of salt but the new Codex is 'suppossed' to be out by december . Of course I have heard that line for a long time now for the DE. So if you can manage to curb the spending towards DE til then at the least it might be beneficial since if the codex comes out army deals should follow.
