Title: Menoth Vengers
Post by: Mad Dok Rob on June 13, 2013, 12:38:08 PM
I have a question for you more experienced warmachine players.

So the Menoth Vengers are getting a rebox to have a full unit in one box.  I have never played with or against Cavalry, I am wondering what everyone's opinion of cavalry is.  Is this the kind of unit I should be thinking about adding to my burgeoning Menoth army?

It depends.

I find cavalry to be situational and need the right caster. Unless we are talking about Tempest Blazers and every situation is the right situation.

There is a guy around here who plays Kreoss 3 who loves his vengers with Kreoss for a lot of fast and hard hitting models.  Maybe he will chime in.

Cavalry units are situational. Their primary issue is their lack of durability for a large based, expensive unit. I often think the points can be better spent. That being said, they do offer opportunities other units never could. Their speed is almost unmatched and Vengers have some of the better abilities on cavalry models.

If you're still hovering around the 42 point mark as your signature suggests, I would look at picking up Daughters/Flameguard/second Reckoner/additional warcasters before I'd get them. They're a sizable investment that shine in few lists.

I've just started using them -- and I like them a lot. You do have to sacrifice a lot though to fit them into your lists (I basically take one less jack in order to field them). I used Kreoss3 with them and his elite cadre buff with them really makes them shine. I also ran a unit of daughters alongside them to take off some of the heat as they ran up the field.

The plan has been to get the KEE with their UA and solo, but with the escalation league I am torn about what to do.  I was thinking either a Harby tier list, a Kreoss tier list (either him in the mega armor or on the horse).  I was thinking that the Mounted version of Kreoss might work well with the Vengers.

Definitely KEE. I figured you had them. Staple unit.

I am pretty sure I will be picking them up for the Planeville escalation league.  Just trying to work out what I want to use with the Harbinger.
