Title: So... That 750 tournament... I'm thinking April.
Post by: Chase on March 06, 2013, 07:54:23 PM
So what do I need to be thinking about as far as this goes?

Rules / restrictions?
Length of each round?
Number of rounds (I'd like 5 for W/L)

Can I get a few examples of what constitutes a 750 point army?  It's like 2 blocks of dudes and a leader, right?

Kinda?  up to 25% lord, 25% hero, at least 25% in core, up to 50% in special, and up to 25% in rare.  So thats around 187.5 for the 25% counts, and 375 for the special, and at least 3 units.  Some armies may be able to fill in a ton of things at 750.  Some may only be a leader and 3 small blocks of dudes.

I think you could have each round be an hour, or maybe 1 hour 15 minutes.

Some armies will probably be the minimum 3 units + characters.
Here's what a vampire counts list could be like:

Lords
Master necromancer level 3

Core
36 skeleton warriors
20 zombies
20 zombies

Special
7 Crypt Horrors

I've played in 1000 point events where no unit could be worth over 300 points.

In the last 40k 500 point event we didn't require players to take an HQ.  Is it reasonable at all to not require that people take a lord, or are they powerful enough to be auto-includes?

Have to have a general.  Lords are not required.  EZPZ

Even if they weren't auto-includes (as seems to be the concensus), you'd be handicapping the undead armies; their troopers literally fall apart without leadership.  While it would be amusing to field 750 points worth of basic skeletons and see who kills more (my foe's attacks or my own poor Ld rolls), I wouldn't want it to be a tourney setting.

If this goes down it plainville I will attend with my empire! haha Also from what I have seen it would probably be best if you just run armies at the regular percentages instead of getting fancy with rules and comping the armies that are already going to be small other then skaven haha

most armies can't get a decent lord choice into 750, what are you talking about?

Would it be problematic to not require a lord for this event?

Armies that don't want one don't need to take it, armies that do... do?

I'm looking for a goofy, newbie friendly, 5 round, W/L event and would absolutely love some feedback.

Lords aren't required like HQ in 40k, you only need one character who can be a hero. In fact, precious few lords can even fit into 750 because of the percentages, and even less ”good” lords will fit.

Honestly, 750 pts doesn't need tweaking.

Well that's awesome news.

So I've only seen one comment about the length of each round and it was 75 minutes.  How do you all feel about that?  Do you feel like that's a very comfortable pace?  Is it aggressive?

Take 500 pts of 40k and add like 15-20 min and that is perfect for timing.  Adepticon has a "warbands" event you can download, with scenarios which fit better to such small games than the book ones.

I went to a 1500pt Tourney and I think the rounds were 2 hours each I think an hour and a half is more then enough time although I have played 750pts in under an hour a few times. The set up it usually what takes the longest and at 1.5 hours a round that should even give newer players time to figure out their rules and flip through their books if need be.

you should definitely do it in Abington. But if you don't I'll still try to make it.

Yeah abington has a huge 1 player community.  Bring it here!   ;)

I'll be there!  I got a sweet skaven build I've been tweaking like a fat kid on coffee!

There's a few more than 1 in Abington, but I imagine well face some kind of rotation between stores when it comes to events.
