Title: Induct my wife to board games?
Post by: Jonathan on August 18, 2010, 05:23:04 PM
I'm hoping to find some board games that my wife will play.  She is not a gamer and shys away from strategy games.  She likes classic games like Apple to Apple.  Something accessible like that, which can be played (successfully) with 2 players (or more for occassional times when friends come over) would be helpful.

Are there any suggestions?  We looked at the wall on Sunday and Apples to Apples was the only one she pointed out.  I know she likes the classic kid games like Chutes & Ladders, Clue, Monopoly (no Risk).

Monopoly deal is pretty fun and is only like 7.50 to pick up brand new, its pretty fast and fun. mu girlfriend and i play it often. Red dragon inn would be fun if you are with friends and are trying to convert her into a gamer. otherwise ticket to ride, go, munchkin games, le bomb, or one of the hasbro card games (scrabble slam, rook, monopoly deal, canasta, etc.) are solid choices.

also i highly recommend skip bo. skip bo is an awesome game to play quickly easy to learn and very accesible.

hope that helps out a little Johnathan  :D

Blokus is good
I love Chess (King's Gambit FTW!!!!!!)
Pokemon Master Trainer...because everyone loves Pokemon
Carcasone (Can't spell it) is pretty basic
Settlers of Catan (C'Tan) is simple enough
Majong can be simple enough (sometimes)

I was going to suggest Settlers, but since Bryan beat me to it I'll just second that!

My non-nerd friends love Carcassonne. Fluxx is also an excellent game for normal people.

Jay Walker is putting together a Formula D league starting this Saturday.  A racing board game seems like it might be okay for a non-gamer.  It's sure to be full of laughs.

I know it's not a board game, but Dominion is a great game to get people into games.

I would agree with Ticket To Ride. My wife likes that game alot. Settlers of Catan is great, Puerto Rico is a great game also. Boardgame Geek (the website) is a great resource for info about games.
