Title: Hordes and Warmachine league?
Post by: skavengear on August 02, 2010, 03:32:55 PM
enough mamby pambying around. lets make this happen 35 points mk2 rules, hordes and warmachine players welcome. we could do hordes vs warmachine, or just free for all. leave a post here if you are interested so we can get things rolling.

this will be free (unless chase/derek wants restitutions) or can be for a small fee and cash prize, i find free is easier to get started on though.

league night is based on availability so lets post the days we are available and real names (faction if you desire):
Dave Goss (Protectorate of Menoth) - not available on thursday, or weekdays before 3-4pm

I'd be down for a league given enough consistent interest. I'd like to use Privateer Press' league system, if possible. I think official PP league play starts in September. I'll look into it.

Mildly related, I've been interested in trying out a map campaign as well. I'll talk to the other players and see how interest looks for both of these.

EDIT: Found the 3 week summer league! http://privateerpress.com/community/organized-play/summer-rampage-2010

Any takers?!

im in for it. can do up to 50 points. just a question to make sure my list if legal:

I can use epic warcasters like the testament of menoth in any game i want if im reading the rulebook right correct? they just represent a different version of a model or etc. because 10 focus is F***ing awesome as hell!

i have a warpwolf (stalker?) and world guardian if you need stuff to make the 50 point games, so you dont have to sacrifice higher points. let me know.

I'll be trying out the game this Thursday nite. If I like it and can get some $ for models I'm in. Great way to get to know a game is to jump right in. If I  do play it'll prob. be Khador.

If you like doug, i can come down thursday. i want to play a few practices before league also and im new so itd be a fair learning game for the both of us. i have the new rulebook and enough for us both to do a small menoth army.

im guessing itd start august (being that thats the final month of summer) unless ian has other plans for it to be done longer or in fall/winter. i myself would like a long term campaign for fall and winter so i have something to keep me off the streets ;D

The league Ian linked to is the summer league. It is a great place to start as it is only 3 weeks long so there is no massive commitment for new players.
<quote>...suggested dates ar[sic] August 16–September 5 though stores may run it for any three week period.</quote>
I would suggest either using that time frame or perhaps pushing it back one week from those dates to provide a little more time for new players to get up to speed.

its an easy game to learn doug, the rules seem complex but alot of it is just circumstantial bonuses that can be looked up. the basic rules are very solid and everything is very balanced.

as far as khador is concerned. they lack range (there still is alot its just shorter) and are the slowest faction speed wise, but more than make up for it by having much higher melee strength and slightly higher armor. also they do frost damage alot so you freeze and slow your opponent. the biggest warjack in khadot is behemoth. the warcasters are more focused toward combat than leading (represented by less cmd and focus, but the usual higher damage and armor).

as to other factions:
cygnar - faster, "weaker", tons of ranged output, and electrical damage which fry warjacks easier (think of really shooty rangers in rpgs)
menoth - in between khador and cygnar, but has more support and counter tricks. deal fire damage (think paladins in rpgs)
cryx - are alot of very fast and cheap models which focus on debuffing and poison damage (think a rogue in rpgs)

hope all that helps, be glad to see more people getting into this  ;D

I watched Ian and Rick play 3 games last night. Tricky stuff, but looks like fun.

Smaller armies, and more detailed. Pretty cool. I like how the caster can boost the rest of their army, but not like they need to be sitting back shooting, like mages in alotta games.

The learning curve looks to be pretty steep, but do-able.  I' m sure it'll take more than afew games to get used to everything.

actually the learning curve is (if you play) much similar to mordheim or warhammer in that its very easy to learn enough to play but difficult to master the subtlties. also, the armies have very obvious synergies and play styles which is awesome.

I would be interested in joining in the fun.

I am a PG for Privateer Press so I can help people learn the rules and get things going.  I really like to emphasis fun as this game is really really fun.

The summer league is a great place to start and the key to this is lots of games.  If the store wants to they order these stamp booklets and you get stamps based on playing games, painting, doing demos etc.  It is a great way to start up the community.

Myself I am starting Hordes for the first time with the new book.  This week was my first game at 15pts with my Circle.  For Warmachine I have Khador, Retribution, and Protectorate.

Sounds good. Dragonknight, tomorow (8/12/2010) Ian is down with tons of other people including myself to show new people and play learning games. If there were a time for anyone interested to come it would be tomorow.

Yup and I'm one them that wants to learn to play. I'll do what I can to make it down there tomorrow night for awhile.
