Look at these new self-rolling dice!

self rolling dice

I’m not quite sure where to categorize something like this. Either it’s the coolest thing ever invented for gamers, or it’s the dumbest thing that could exist. Let me introduce you to self-rolling dice. These bad boys have a tiny motor in them and are activated by sound. So, basically, with a snap of a finger, they’ll begin to “dance” around. Whatever side they land on is the roll you get! Hence why they are also nicknamed “boogie dice.” Here, check out the video of them in action.

So what did you think? Would you get yourself of self-rolling dice?

Some final thoughts on these dice – I think its great that people are going out of their way to mix technology and tabletop gaming. It makes you wonder what other inovations can people come up with. Another positive look on these self-rolling dice is that these might help disabled gamers. For those who can’t pick up dice and roll them, this could be an interesting alternative. Now, you don’t have to “snap” your fingers to make them roll. They activate based on any sound. Which leads me to some negatives about the dice. Role playing groups are notoriously loud, or at least they can get loud. So what’s stopping these dice from dancing around the entire playthrough?

The can currently be found on Kickstater. A fully charged die can roll for about 30 minutes – that equates to about 500 activations, according to the report. The suggested MSRP for two dice and a charging station is $39.99. There is no word yet on whether these will be sold at retail locations.

princess bride dice game

Why are all the coolest games on Kickstarter? Ugh. Well, check out this amazingly looking game based on The Princess Bride! Brought to you by Games Salute (Keyflower, Pixel Lincoln), The Princess Bride: I Hate to Kill You is part of a “three box” set which features this and two other games based on the film. This particular games was designed by Jim Harmon, with art by Felicia Cano. According to the report, here is how the game plays out:

“The game recreates the sword duels from the movie, with players taking the role of either the man in Black, Inigo Montoya, Count Rugen, or Prince Humperdinck.  Each player stars with 6 dice and 10 cards. Each turn, both players roll dice and play a card which may modify the outcome. The player with the highest swords score wins a hit, and must remove one sword die from their active pool. There are cards that modify the dice pool, or opponent’s dice. The first player to land 5 hits wins the game.”

The game is for 2 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in 10 minutes. MSRP is set at $25.00. Right now, the Kickstarter has only 42 hours left in the campaign with only one tier to back – a $19 tier in which fulfillment is schedule for July of 2016. Sadly, there is no date for retail release. Hopefully, that will come soon after their fulfillment date. I cannot wait for this to come out. Id you love the movie, then you may love this as well. Smash Up Its Your Fault Box Art

Hope everyone had an amazing holiday! I know I did. I had four rounds of food and somehow managed to survive. With that, here is some gaming news for today. It looks like fans of the game Smash Up can expect a new expansion for the game called “Smash Up: It’s Your Fault.” Due out sometime in March 2016, the expansion will feature four brand new factions including: Sharks, Superheroes, Greek Myths, and Dragons.

Also included in the expansion will be,

“…88 new cards, 4 card dividers to help with sorting, a token sheet, rulebook, and a secret ‘Shark Delivery System.'”

Personally, I’m excited to see what the Greek Myths have to offer. Combined with Ninjas or Robots and I think we’ve got a winning combination. What do you think? What are you looking forward to teaming up when the expansion comes out? Smash Up is for 2 players, but can be expanded to 4 by combining multiple sets, and is intended for ages 14 and up. The suggested MSRP is $19.99.

Kickstarter Spotlight: ‘The Banner Saga: Warbands’

banner saga board game box cover

“A cooperative, miniatures board game that deals with the difficulties and consequences of decision making.”

If there was ever a board game you may need to own, this one might be the game. Check out “The Banner Saga: Warbands.” This also might be the first board game that I’ve seen where you don’t need any dice to play. It’s all about the decisions you and your team make, and the rest is in the cards you flip over.  The Banner Saga: Warbands is a fully cooperative game for 2-4 players. The point of the game is for players take up the role of the leaders in a warband tasked with keeping the warband together and alive.

As of now the box will contain, “…a world map, 4 player boards, 12 bannermen & follower cards, 54 event and camp cards, 10 oversized skirmish cards, 10 mission cards, a skirmish board, 30 plastic miniatures and rules.” The game currently has 17 days to go, as of November 16th, and has made well over their original goal of $50K with a little over $116K. Those who back the Kickstarter can expect their game sometime in August of 2016. There hasn’t been any official announcement on if and when it will hit retail shelves.

Steve Jackson Games Announces It Will Publish ‘I Hate Zombies’

I hate zombies box art

Steve Jackson Games, today, announced it will be publishing the successfull Kickstarter game “I Hate Zombies.” The game a is a fun, fast-paced game that puts two teams against each other to battle – a team of humans and a team of zombies. Here’s a more detailed break down of what the game is all about:

“In this game for up to twelve, players are split into two teams: one zombie team and one human team. Zombies take more effort to kill, while humans each have a unique special ability. Any human that is eliminated becomes a zombie, and play continues until only one side remains. Either the surviving humans are the winners, or the surviving zombies (except the very last zombie created).”

The cool thing about this game is that the battles between zombies and humans are settled by playing Rock-Papers-Scissors. Add to that the powers that some of the cards give you, and you get an exciting game that can end in about 10 minutes.

Okay, so short games may not be for some people, but the big benefit of a fast game is that you can play more of them! With up to 12 people playing, games have the potential of getting ugly…in a good way.

Kickstarter orders have already been fulfilled, but there is no set date for the game to hit retail stores.

I Hate Zombies was designed by Kevin Wilson. The game contains 21 large, double-sided character cards and a rulesheet. It’s also for 2 – 12 players and the MSRP is set at $14.95.
